Here's what struck me about that article... It mentions Penn State being added in 1993...sixteen years ago... And we were on the Prodigy Football boards arguing about it...remember Wanda going ballistic about the PSU-tOSU home/away schedule the first few years? Remember the PSU guys being upset about the move? We've been doing this a long time.
AJ, would you like Nebraska in the Big 10/11/12? Stu, when did the Big 10 make the run at Notre Dame, was it at the same time Penn State came in or later?
I was in 1999..... Here's another article which says ND has to join the B10. ND/B10 I don't think there is any sentiment still in the ND camp for membership in the B10.
I don't know Bill. It's got some interesting thoughts that come with it though. Initially, my biggest concern would be the game clocks. Missouri has been rumored to be interested in the move. Logistically ND makes the most sense, but I don't see that happening. Iowa St., but I'm sure Alvarez and company would want more of a marquee name if the move was made to boost the interest level of the league. Alot of what I've heard over the years was that then HC Osborne wasn't thrilled with the idea of the new B12 conf, to include the B12 CG. At the time the league was being considered, it was the SWC that needed the B8, not the other way. Due to that move, we lost our annual NU/OU game because of scheduling, seemingly have a state of Texas bias when it comes to any and all B12 matters, and it appears that the B12 CG is being slowly trickled down to All Texas venues (Thanks JJ) forgetting about great venues as K.C. and St. Louis. See they have streets named after conferences like that, they're called "One Way".
There is a lot more to being a fit for a conference than the football program...or even sports... I am not smart enough to comment on all of the mentioned schools, but I do know that some schools have been put forward that really wouldn't, IMO, be a match...WVa comes to mind from what I've heard.
Well said, Stu. That fact came to light during the discussions between ND and the Big 10. The primary factors had nothing to do with sports. They had everything to do with education and research. The sports aspect was important to the outside world, but it was not in the forefront of the negotiations.
Never. Never even heard of it? Tell me more, or were you asking me? Do we need help on this? RICK!!
I was watching a Food Network show last night and their "stars" were all talking about their favorite food. One of them said her favorite was a Elvis Panni Sandwich (peanut butter, bacon, bannas) at the Parker House in Nashville washed down by a Bacon Fat Washed Bourbon. Essentially you take a frozen ball of bacon fat and put it in a glass with bourbon and then swirl it around and the alcohol dissolves some of the bacon fat, then you pour off the alcohol and serve it neat, adds a bacon flavor to it.
