That seems to be the way it goes this year for them. I do wonder though if they will get invited to the NIT. Nothing against the team, it just seems like at 15-13 their record wouldn't be good enough. Terry
Maybe so, I'd like to see them get an invitation. Maybe they could do something in it and salvage the season to a small extent.
The season ends in a typical fashion, the Irish losing on a last second shot! Talk about a snake bitten team. On to next year, a critical year in the tenure of Mike Brey. ND womens basketball team also had a frustrating year. The womens program has also been sliding somewhat since the Nat'l Championship year. They have made the NCAA's each year, but they haven't been able to capitalize on that Championship with great recruiting. Coach McGraw missed a number games this year due to unspecified health problems, maybe that was the problem. Due to the Nat'l Championship and the fact that her teams have continued to make the NCAA's, she has a pretty long rope. Brey doesn't. Terry
The little train that couldn't. They had to prolong the season. Hey why lost to Michigan once in a season when you can do it twice. You just knew that they would blow the lead that they had almost the entire game. They've done it nearly every time. What snake would want to bite that team?
 I watched the game and it was bad. It was also quite a come-down from the level of play that we've been watching in March Madness. Both teams made silly mistakes, especially in positioning themselves on the floor. A lot of work...and recruiting, need to be done. .............JO'Co
Interesting analysis, JO'Co. I was not going to get involved in this topic, but I must say that my view of the game is similar to yours. Numerous mental errors by ND players in crunch time. The only thing that kept the game close was that the MI players also committed the same errors. I sure hope it's the players and not the coaching. Time and new recruits will tell. Unfortunately, as Terry said earlier, time is getting short for Coach Brey. I hope the Irish can come back to a competitive level next season, but it's going to be tough.
LOL! Gip, although I am not at your level of "disenchantment" (polite version) with ND B-ball, you sure make me laugh with your sharp wit. If you ever decide to retire from your law practice, I have no doubt that you could be a success as a standup comedian.
Thanks Sid Quite frankly, I'd love to be a stand up comic. It means I can stand up. If ND is going to be a big time BB program, it's time to commit to it. We should turn the BB area of the JACC into a hockey facility and build a new field house for BB. That should help both programs. If Duke can compete year after year with good students, we can too. Why does OSU get the best player out of Indiana? We're never going to be able to compete with Syr., UConn and the rest of the Big East if we keep recruiting country club 3 pt. shooters. Then again ND basketball is like Kentucky football.....something to do in the off season.
Why does OSU get the best player out of Indiana? Gipper, Oden thought Coach Matta was a fun coach and thus he decided to come to Ohio State. Don
Oden is the concensus best player in the country and has been described as the #1 NBA pick if he was eligible, which he is not because of the new rules. Oden will play college ball for only one year. If I was a college coach, I would not recruit him for only one year. However, as I have said before when dicussing this topic, Matta was smart to recruit both Oden and Conley, Oden's teammate. Conley is a big-time player by himself and will enhance OSU's program long after Oden is gone.
