Hey this is sports related. I've been back bowling, sort or anyway, for about a month now. I was averaging in the 180's when I got injured and had been in the 190's in the past. Anyway I had a 215 Thursday which is my high game since returning. The two games before that were pretty low but I don't count them!  Anyway I'm not sure if I expect to be back where I was when the season starts but I am averaging in the 160's now but being very inconsistent. I do know enough though to go ahead and sign up for two leagues.
Up until last time out I was kind of fitting that description myself Terry! But we will let you know.
Excellent news Bill! Great job. Went out today and played golf and shot my second consecutive 91....which ain't too bad for me. Fortunately my leg...while still a tad gimpy going up and down stairs and inclines doesn't have any effect on my golf swing.
That's a good score MCG. My leg is the same way going up and down stairs but it seems to be fine bowling now as long as I don't lose my balance.
It can be a lot of fun Corey. It can also be very frustrating when you aren't going well. With me right now it's a combination of both while I'm trying to get back where I was. Hey I think some of the bowlers in our mens league don't bowl sober either.
Remember televised bowling back in the 70's with Chris Schenkel and Nelson Burton, Jr. doing the commentary? Two of the premier bowlers at that time were Mark Roth and Johnny Petraglia. They also happened to live in the area here. I actually bowled in a summer league against them around 1984-85. I got slotted head to head with Roth one night. In the first Game I bowled a round 225 and lost by ten pins. In the next game I shot about 198 and lost by forty. In the finale he beat me 289-179! He was a nice guy who threw the most powerful rotation I have ever seen. His thumb looked like it was hanging on his hand by a single tendon from years of abuse. I commented I wish I could throw the power ball like him... his reponse?..... just make your spares, the strikes will come. Good luck with your comeback, Bill. Avoid the beer frames
Thanks for the good wishes and the story George. I sure remember Roth and do remember about his thumb giving him trouble. He did throw the most powerful ball I had ever seen to that point. Hey if you were rolling those kind of scores in the 80's you were probably a very good bowler. That sounded like a scratch league and before the newer bowling balls came out. Averages run higher now. Do you still bowl?
I quit league bowling around 1990. Now I might bowl 2 or 3 times per year. My average never got above 184. I had a shot at bowling my first 700 series before I had bowled a 600. I rolled a 244 - 254 and then capped it off with a 109! I opened the first three frames and the 10th.
That's a pretty good average for the 80's George. It was about the time you quit that my average jumped from about the same level you were at to the 190's. The changed the lanes and oiling and came out with the new reactive balls that hit a lot better. I laid off about 4-5 years in the late 90's and struggled a bit after coming back but carried one of my best averages ever in the o5/06 season. Both seasons since then I've had to take some time off for physical reasons, back, shoulder and the injury. I hope that I can get back in the 180s at least and make a whole season this year. Thanks again for sharing that Mark Roth story.
For all of you waiting with baited breath here's my latest update from yesterday. I had my best outing yet, 172-187-157 for a 516. I'm getting closer, I think. What I need to work on now is timing.
