Yeah I'll bet that Sugar Bowl where he tried to defend Mixon was the end for him, he got a lot of criticism from all sides. And as everybody remembers him drooling over Katherine Webb like the foolish old man he was/is. Although she should thank him for it, as it raised her national profile quite a bit.

But in general I liked Brent, he did have a distinctive voice and way of calling the game. He called quite a few Irish games and I don't remember ever saying I wish we had somebody else calling the game. He had a lot of color partners over the years, he was good with Herbie when they worked together.

But it's time. I thought it interesting that in his retirement he's moving to Vegas to help a family member set up a Sports Book.

Gulp, hmmm I was appreciating the aspects of Miss Webb myself at the moment...

I always thought he was a Notre dame homer when Miami played them...

Scott, I couldn't stand his cliches and once he latched onto a theme everything that happened in the game after that he tied to that theme. Whether it was logical or not. I really didn't like to listen to his games. :x

Funny, Ralph, I thoought the opposite. I guess if you can make both sides dislike you, you must be doing a good job. Play-by-play announcers in all sports probably are among the the most polarizing figures on TV. I guess the measure of success is how long your career lasts. He's retiring at 77, so objectively it looks like he was successful.

He was always a champion of 'swagger' and he loved any team that was equal parts taunt to talent.

We're gonna need a new drinking game now. Thankfully, we still have Herbie.

Everyone has an opinion on football commentators. In my opinion, the Fowler-Herbstreit combo is white noise. I'm sure others think they're OK.

    I like Fowler/Herbie.

You know who is rising pretty fast is Brady Quinn.

I don't mind Herbstreit, or Danielson. There are so many games on so many different networks now that I honestly don't know the names of many announcers anymore. I don't like Jesse Palmer although he would probably be the best head coach in the history of sports.

Never liked Mussberber after he was rude to my cousin 25 or 30 years ago when she was a flight attendant (stewardess back then).
