Half a century ago, this family band had hit after hit. Their success inspired the creation of a TV show, based on their story. Now most of the band is dead, and their family home washed away in a hurricane with one of them who tried to save family mementos. The little girl in the original band was seven years old. Now she's a 57 year-old grandma, but she still sounds good. These are the Cowsills... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/foepOwQlXpI" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Nice JO'Co... My favorite Cowsill song; Video and audio poor...but funny when he says his "Hair" now only comes out of his nose and ears. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8R9ui4z8kX0" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Great find Stu. In the mid 60's, the Monkees weren't the only band manufactured by Hollywood record producers. Producer and song writer P.F. Sloan (The Eve of Destruction) created this band too. It was basically a garage band that won an amateur contest in San Mateo, along with some of Jim Morrison's fellow film students from UCLA. They were called the Grass Roots. Here is a special TV appearance of the Grass Roots. They're joined on stage by Mary Arnold of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QTQS3hkmUVk" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Just heard "Where Were You When I Needed You?" on the sixties channel yesterday. Looked them up...they didn't hit it big until their third incarnation. They are still playing and touring. There are four members...and 51 FORMER members of the band. that has to be some kind of record.
I haven't gone to Google on Paul Revere and the Raiders, but given the had a TV show I wonder if they were a Mfg group for TV?

What a great trip down memory lane! Always loved that song. They still sound like the originals after all these years. Thanks, Jim. Made my day.

Research this fellow, Kenny Vance. He is huge on the east coast but has a real strong prescense in the music industry going way back. Got his start with the original Jay and the Americans. I have seen this group five times from Stuart Florida to Point Pleasant NJ. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4kkTvLgqafs" frameborder="0"></iframe>
George, you might enjoy a bit of my South Jersey history. I lived there from 1956 to 1961 (7th grade through junior year in HS). In the summer of 1961, I saw Ricky Nelson perform at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. 8) Kenny Vance's voice still has excellent range after all those years.
Vance suffered a double whammy in the last five years. First Hurricane Sandy destroyed his home and all of his memorabilia. Then he was taken ill and out of commission for more than 2 years. he is just starting to perform again. He has one of the top voices I have ever heard. And he hs written and produced a slew of all time hits for others.

Here's a little change of pace. Always loved how these guys could play it live just as well as it sounded on the album. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9IVojgL2zmQ" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Re: Mamas and Papas My senior year at ND (65-66), the guy across the hall had a M&P album with those and other songs which he played constantly. I never got tired of hearing them. Beautiful sounds.
