I think Andy Staples is running with it and I've seen the credible SEC blogs posting the same thing this morning. He'll finish out the season, but the ride ends there. I don't think that's a good way to go. If you're going to break up, then go.. just don't hang out for a few more weeks.. ****, what if the guy beats FSU? hahaha
Ron Zook beat FSU in similar circumstances. That would be a helluva note..... but Florida was the last team to beat FSU anywhere..... two seasons ago at Doak.
He was offered a job at Tennessee. We were way down with a fan base and boosters that would have been willing to wait for him to bring the program back up to prominence. He turned that down and then took the Florida gig. Florida fans/boosters have not seen that bottom level of their program and are not as willing to wait. Jones is enjoying the ability to get his kids in and expectations will rise in the 5th year. Dobbs may help him get there in year 3.
I think Muschamp will land on his feet, certainly with at least a top Defensive Coordinator job. Probably down the road he gets another shot at a head coaching job. When he does he would be well advised to get a top OC and turn him loose. Best of luck to him, up until yesterday I wanted him to stay.
I know a program that should be looking for a DC that knows how to play defense against SEC teams. I thought Mus was hotheaded blowhard while at Texas, but we need someone to get this ball back in play so I hope Sumlin gives him a look.
Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly or Art Briles according to the Orlando paper... http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/open-mike/os-gators-muschamp-briles-gundy-chip-kelly-brian-kelly-20141116-post.html
1. HAHAHAHA 2. Maybe? 3. That guy is all Texas who has almost no recruiting connections outside of the state of Texas. He would be learning on the go in the most cut throat recruiting area of the country in a state in which Florida State is the defending national champ and Miami is on the cusp on coming back to form.. Briles would be a huge gamble.
No disrespect to Florida, but if Brian Kelly's agent is negotiating behind the scenes with Foley at any time then Swarbrick should fire Kelly. I get it that neither his agent or Kelly has any control over some media guy deciding to write that Brian Kelly is a candidate for the UF job, but Brian Kelly can tell his agent if you take Foley's call it's to tell him I'm not interested. The same goes for Kelly himself, if asked by a media person it's I'm not interested. Hopefully Swarbrick is dialed in enough to know if Kelly's given his agent the go ahead to at least discuss what the particulars are that Foley's is offering, that is how much money, how big a budget for staff and recruiting and stuff like. If that is happening it comes immediately to an end or demands that Kelly resign or be fired.
I just think the writer, like a lot of UF fans, like a lot of ND fans, has this crazy unrealistic sense of entitlement. If Jesus Christ came back and applied for the head coach job at Notre Dame, we'd still make him interview while we waited to see if Stoops would come around. And then there's Gruden
Good thing for Brian Kelly that O'Keefe is not AD. Not good for a coach's job longevity when he walks into the AD's office and the AD is dressed in medievil executioner's attire:
Supposedly Foley told Spurrier to bring his resume to the interview because he knew he had the great Ron Zook in the fold if Spurrier balked...
Stoops and Charlie Strong have taken themselves out of consideration. Dan Mullen and Rich Rodriquez are reportedly not even on Foley's list. I wonder if Jim Harbaugh would leave San Francisco for Fla? He's reportedly on the outs with the S.F. management. Chip Kelly, has a really good NFL team headed for the playoffs and that wouldn't fit with Foley's desire to have a coach in place by Christmas. Brian Kelly would face the AD empowered to go to the dungeon and get out the old gear left over from the Inquistion. Saban is still miffed about not getting the Texas job and probably doesn't want to go through another job search. Gruden hasn't been a coach in a long time now, and never has been a college head coach. X him out. I'm betting on Doc Holiday myself.
