It's a time-proven adage. If you want to kick start your career, get traded FROM the Cubs. Soriano never hit his stride in Chicago in terms of his potential. It's as if the trade turned on the light switch. Now he's playing like Roy Hobbs.

LOL! I saw that. With every at-bat I've been thinking along with you guys. All he had to do was escape from the curse of the Cubs to return to glory.

Rick Monday was talking about the Cubs the other night and as a former Cubs player, he knows what he's talking about. He related a conversation that he had with Don Kessinger many years ago. Kessinger said that when he was called up to join the team, he was the first Cubs player in ELEVEN years to become a regular starter after serving in their minor league system. Since 1906, the Cubs have annually traded away their minor league talent to win quickly......at the expense of their longer term future. Both Monday and Kessinger believe that if the team would just be more patient and develop from the ground up, the results would improve.

Actually, it appears that Epstein is trying to reverse the trend by trading Garza, Soriano, and others for minor league depth. If he truly is trying to rebuild the farm system, more power to him. There is so much work to be done, at best it probably will take another 2-3 years before we know if his efforts are going to pay off.
