Every time I see one of these oversized RC Airplanes I am

    1. totally amazed at the craftsmanship that goes into these things, they are so well done.

    2. always wondering how much money these guys invest in these things.

    3. Wonder what about the insurance, I mean that is big enough that if it gets away from the guy running the RC unit and crashes it could do some serious damage.

    4. Wonder when a RC controlled airplane like that one will be used in a terrorist act.

I have a lot of experience with this. Never anything above a 6ft wing span though. My favorite was a P-51 Mustang.

    1) Several hundred hours as opposed to about 80 hours on a normal size RC plane... unless you go the ARF route (Almost Ready to Fly). In that case, a normal sized RC can be ready to fly with about 10 hours work.

    2) Regular size, depending on radio complexity, between $300 and $600 (not including transmitter - one transmitter can be used on many different planes). One the size of this one shown in Terry's post, I would estimate at $2500+

    3) AMA license (American Modelers (not Medical) Association membership and license includes an accidental insurance policy. Whether that is enough is the question. Especially when the size is above the normal RC plane

    4) Almost anything can be used in a terrorist attack. So, yes, that is a possibility. However, more likely would be a 4 bladed drone remote control device with camera that transmits down to an iPhone. More accurately placed explosive device that can be remotely triggered from the Drone. We use these at car shows to do fly bys of the cars to post on facebook.

The plane that took off in the begging of the video was an Air Malaysian jet. It disappeared. :)

Thanks for posting that JOCO. The Haunted House has always been my favorite amusement park ride. Scary rides don't bother me. There's just something so genuine about the effort put into it. I have always appreciated that and will forever love that ride.

Harlow enjoyed the video as well!
