One thing I don't like about the bowl structure since the start of the BCS is the joke that has become the '2nd tier' bowl games.

Conference tie-ins and TV contracts attached to those various conferences have killed the free market on this once proud tradition.

10-2 TCU and undefeated Boise State meet in the Poinsettia Bowl on December 23rd, while South Carolina and Iowa meet in the Outback bowl on Jan 1!?!?!? Has there ever been a worse matchup of 2 teams that have accomplished so little AND no one cares about outside of their respective states?

There are some good games, but it would take me a whole lot longer to list the stinkers so I will wrap it up by saying that.... this bowl lineup sucks.

I was thinking the same thing Corey.
Lots of yawns, and very little to get excited about.

I guess I'll watch SOME of the games, just because it's the end of football for me ( I have no interest in the mercenary prison league)...

Well either it's a good game/matchup or it's not. I personally don't see the relevance of where it's played or when it's played.

Really Terry, come on now. You're telling me that you see the Motor City Bowl in the same light as you see the Fiesta, Orange, Rose or Sugar Bowl?!?!?!

You know exactly what I am saying. There are some great matchups in bowl games that may not even be in existence 3 years from now, meanwhile the marquis bowls offer up an incredibly lengthy list of yawners...

OH!! But they are 'power conference teams' Yummmy!! That makes it all better...

    :(

No I'm not, I no longer get caught up in the "If it's not a Jan 1 Bowl it's not worth watching".....I just want to see a matchup that intrigues me. Remember I'm the guy who used to stay up late to watch those Pac10 classics on Fox before anybody discovered them.

The fact that it's the Orange Bowl, I could care less. Cincy vs Va Tech is a ho hummer. They earned it according to this system sure, but I'm more excited for the Gator Bowl with the Huskers vs Clemson. To me it's a matchup I am looking forward to. I'm looking forward to the Cotton Bowl Tech vs Ole Miss.

As far as Utah vs Bammer. Congrats to the Utes, but they are going to get their heads handed to them by Bammer just like Hawaii did with Georgia last year. It won't be an interesting game to watch.

USC vs PSU....it's not that it's the Rose Bowl (yawn), it's just two teams I want to see play. I do think USC will slaughter JoePa, I can't wait to see the carnage here though, but won't bother with Utah/bammer.

Hey, I went to the Motor City Bowl last year and it was a very entertaining game as Purdue and Central Michigan lit up the scoreboard. It was a much better game to watch than LSU-OSU or Ga.-Hawaii.

That Emerald Bowl matchup looks like it might me a good inter-sectional matchup.

    Terry,

I know you're an all day football nut like I am. My point was that the 'marquis' bowls now are filled with some really bad matchups. Some of the lower bowls are now the better matchups that people look forward to..

This whole system (BCS and below) just sucks and I really don't see it as an improvement over what we had... thus, my push the last few years for a playoff or a return to the old bowl system.. not that either will happen.

As soon as you created a BCS Bowl for the NC, then all the other BCS Bowls became just about the money. Nobody really cares except the fans of the teams who are playing. They are frequently not sellouts, and TV ratings aren't always very good. Now if they luck out and get a good matchup sure then it'll be good. Utah vs Bammer isn't a good matchup, there is little interest in Utah. Texas/Ohio State is a good matchup and USC/PSU is a good matchup. Cincy/VaTech is a ho hummer. But it would be a Ho Hummer if it were in the Liberty bowl.

no offense but I think the only people who care about Texas and Ohio State are Texas and Ohio State fans.

Those are 2 of the largest fan bases in the game and they are both rabid, but we've seen this game 2 times in the past 3 years. Tiebreaker bowl doesn't really move me a whole lot.

People keep underestimating Utah... I find that interesting.

Oh and I think you are way off with the interest in the Texas/Ohio State game. I'll be it will be a ratings winner. There is a lot to peak interest. Colt McCoy and Terrell Pryor for starters.

I can't actually name a Utah player or even their coach. I know they are the Utes...not Youths with a Brooklyn accent. :)

    Good one.

What's the name of Corey's new avatar? UnderUte (re: Underdog)? Super Ute?
No problem with the coach's name. Kyle Whittingham. A real comer. Re: the players. I wonder how few people knew the names of even one of the Texas Western players before the 1966 NCAA basketball championship game with Kentucky.

    HAHAHA

    That is Underdog Sid...

    Ahhh childhood memories.

    Terry,

Of course it will be a ratings winner. Who in TX and OH won't be watching? Thanks to the scheduling of the bowls, what college football fan will have a choice?

At this point, I'd think some people would be less curious about the names on the back of their jerseys and be more concerned with their onfield product.

Basketball before Pearl just wasn't very exciting for Tennessee Fans unless it was of the female variety.

    Corey,
I have to agree with you. No offense to my SEC brethren but it is hard to believe that So. Carolina is going to play on New Years Day. Bring on the 8 or 16 team playoff and all of this goes away. If you win you advance! What a month that would be.
