College football will dominate Skybox henceforth, but there still are some close races in baseball to be watched and discussed.

Terry, your Astros fired their manager today. Apparently the team didn't live up to management's lofty expectations.

Yeah he had to go, after all they gave him a minor league team and then he improved their record this year over last year and the team played well in the month of August. I think they were over .500 for August. So clearly the guy can't coach, if you give him a 44M roster, what the hell else does he need, some real major league players...pffft. Give a guy 44M and you expect some results!!!

BTW I note that since the A's purchased two front line pitchers in Lester and Samarzdja that they have gone from a solid lead and the best record in baseball to 5 games behind the Angels. What happened to pitching is 90% of winning? I saw Samardzja threw 8 innings of great baseball the other night and got beat 2-0, only 1 of those was on him. He could have stayed in Chicago and got those results. Now the A's have picked up Adam Dunn in no doubt a desperation attempt to score some runs. Hope it works for them. I'd like to see them win it all in the AL and face the resurgent Cardinals in the WS!! :)

Phils get a combined no-hitter vs. the Braves. Hamels first 6 innings, followed by 3 RP with Papelbon the closer. Phils win 7-0.

:( The Brewers are starting to melt. Have now lost 8 out of 10 and dropped out of first for the first time since April. With Molina back and Wacha coming back soon, it looks like it will be Wild Card or bust for Milwaukee.

Sid, it is only going to get better for the Cubbies. You still have Bryant and Almora waiting for their invitation to the show.

The firing of the Astros manager was a disgrace. He won't be unemployed long.

Clayton Kershaw is close to wrapping up the Cy Young, what an outstanding season. Too bad the newly hot Cardinals are going to keep him out of the WS!

I agree with Vin Scully. I just can't see this Dodger team going all the way. They're a hard team to cheer for. They have one of the worst defenses in baseball and they've been picked off the bases at a record clip. Yasiel Puig alone has been thrown out and picked off more than any player in either league. It's just not the "Dodger Way to Play Baseball."

Baseball is a funny game. Michael Pineda of the Yankees has given up one run in his last two starts over 15 innings and has two losses to show for it.

Dodgers vs. Giants for three @ Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers magic number is down to 3 as the Giants have fallen into a Wild Card tie with the red-hot Pirates. Peavey vs. Haren tomorrow; Kershaw and Greinke after that. Ryu will return for the playoffs...

I'd root for the Dodgers anyway, but especially in this case, because I want the Pirates to make it to the playoffs. Of course, the Pirates have to do their part.

I'm still puzzled by the fall of the A's, they had the MLB's best record when they traded for two top line pitchers in Jeff Samarzdja and Jon Lester...so what happens they fall to 10 games behind the Angels. Isn't pitching 90% of the game? Go figure.

Yes, Terry. Pitching is 90%, and the other 50% is hitting.

Greinke shuts down the Giants 4-2. The Dodgers magic number is down to one, with Kershaw going for win # 21 tomorrow!

Astro's Jose Altuve has a real shot at winning the AL batting title this year. Currently leads and as we all know with so many at bats already it's hard to change your average significantly in the few games left.

I don't think the Astro's have ever had a batting champion. I'm trying to think of Astros who have lead the league in any cateogory. Biggio probably lead the league numerous times in hit by pitch. Just checked and Bagwell lead the league in runs scored 3 times and there were other categories he also was #1.

Berkman lead the league in RBI's once, Biggio lead the league in doubles several times.

But I think he might be our first batting champion.

    Dodgers 9
    Giants 1

The Dodgers win the Wild West. Clayton Kershaw wins his 21st, hits a triple, makes miracle defensive plays and gives up zero earned runs. MVP! MVP! MVP! Puig hits a HR, Uribe finishes with his best year ever and joy returns to Muddville...

Tribe has 3 games left. Elimination number is 1.

Shows you how important all of those games all year long are. We really have no chance yet didn't get eliminated from Central race until Tuesday night (four games left) and will only have a couple of games left when the axe finally falls.

Ah to have had just a couple more W's.

Off tonight...can only hope Oakland and KC don't both win.
