Here's something I did not know about Chester/McCloud. This is why I chose to post this topic about Dennis Weaver's passing on the Sports Board: It's fine with me if the moderators choose to move it to the back room. I just found it facinating that he qualified for the Olympics in perhaps the most physically demanding event, then he found stardom by developing a trademark limp to go along with his memorable drawl.
That does seem like one of those believe it or not things. Not only the limp but he looked anything but like a former world class athlete. Is it just me or are old favorites dropping like flies? Terry
 Wow. I liked Dennis Weaver too, but I had no idea that he was an Olympic level athlete in his youth. Wow. ..............JO'Co
Make it three, kp...Darren McGavin also died this week... Kolchak "The Night Stalker", Mike Hammer, and of course the father in "Christmas Story". He also played Murphy Brown's father. stu
Since we are on the topic of yesterday's stars, who can tell me who this person is? He was famous as a child actor and then was famous in at least one major adult role.
Looks like JO'Co but its really Spanky McFarland. I'll be damned if I can think of any significant adult role he played though.
Spanky was his stage name as a child actor. What was his real name? A clue to his adult role was that he worked with an animal named Fred.
Forget I ever asked this question. I am working under mistaken information. I received an e-mail... one of those "did you know this" type e-mails. That person was confused and I didn't check it out first. Now that I have done my homework, there was an "Our Gang" member that went by the name of Mickey Gubitosi. He later changed his stage name to Bobby Blake. Later in life, he started going by Robert Blake, the star of many movies and one TV series as Baretta. Sorry for the misinformation. I'll check these things out better next time.
You're thinking of Coogan's Bluff, and yes, it's been credited as being an inspiration for McCloud. Rick
