    Speculation abounds....

It's probably a little early to be thinking about the Les Miles-Michigan situation, but the whole thing reminds me of the Urban Meyer-Notre Dame-Florida love triangle of 2004. Would Les Miles really want a semi-rebuilding job at his "dream job" rather than the talent and trophies that go along with being a premier SEC program? Meyer didn't. – DH

A: Never, ever think you can understand coaches. They’re a different breed of cat. Remember, part of the reason Meyer didn’t take the Notre Dame job was because the money was far less and the situation wasn’t nearly as strong. Meyer can certainly coach, but he was taking more money for a better situation. Michigan, if and when Lloyd Carr is gone, isn’t going to make the same mistake Notre Dame did. It’ll pay to get the guy it thinks can make the program a national title winner tomorrow, and the main candidate will get the royal treatment. While it might seem crazy for Miles to leave a nearly perfect situation, Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, and countless others bolted when everything appeared to be set up to win year after year after year.

I disagree with your rendition of the Meyer decision to go to Fla. The fact is, Meyer had committed to Fla. long before he was contacted by ND. He and Machen were old friends and when Zook was announced gone in mid season, the deal was done.
ND of course waited until the end of the season because they didn't want to tamper with another school's coach. Too often they end up in a complicated job search when so many other schools seem to have someone always waiting in the wings (Saban being just one example.)

Guys as usual...as always... you mistake/misconstrue what I paste from CFN, CBS, SI or ESPN as my own words and then take issue with me personally.

Don't you guys ever read anything sports related online?

First of all your original post had no link nor did it indicate that for once you might be actually posting some original thought.
Second, while we might occasionally read sports related articles on line, we don't as some apparently do, spend every waking moment reading whatever crap someone on every site wants to post. It's called having a life.

<t>1. Cite your sources if you don't want those words to be mistaken for yours. That isn't the reader's fault, its yours. Stop casting blame in the wrong direction.<br/>

    2. As I have stated before, the vast majority of online sports reporting is horse sh*t. Its terrible writing, and even worse 'journalism.'<br/>

I was listening to 'the show that dare not speak its name' (Fienbuam) today while driving to get Carson... They basically stated that LSU is a 'hot and cold' program and this is perhaps this highest they've ever been...but they will come crashing back down like they always do. Second, they also referred to that region as 'virtually a 3rd world country.'<br/>
    <br/>
That doesn't sound like other southerner's think much of that 'premier' SEC job.</t>

I wish Saban had been a done deal after Shula was fired, but the situation was totally uncertain. I think Shula refused to make changes to his staff and he was gone after one meeting. Saban was one of many candidates. He was the top candidate but I don't think anyone thought he would leave Miami. We came within a breath of having Rodriquez as our coach.<br/>

I hate even discussing the substance of Finebaum's BS but I kind of agree with the assessment of LSU. LSU has always taken kids from Louisiana and put together a tough tough team. The have always flirted with the top until the last 7 or 8 years. I'm not sure they will crash but if history means anything then they may not be able to sustain their current status. I don't think they are a 3rd world country but they are like another country. This is probably the wrong week to say it but Arkansas is a hot and cold program.</t>

Usually I do denote that I am pulling from an article or I provide a link.

I thought those clues above may give it away but I guess I was wrong.

I will preface in more detail next time where the article comes from for those who can't decipher.

Flutie and the cash grabbin' fullback on ABC just said that ND (being independent) still would most likely be going to a BCS game with 2 losses while conference teams can't say that.<br/>

I haven't even looked up the cold hard facts yet, but I have a feeling that history has shown us something quite different. Anyone want to do the homework? I'm going to be torturing myself for the next few hours.</t>

Texas 7-4 in 1996, Fla State was 7-5 in 2005, the list is endless.
