With only one of their remaining four games at home, how many games will Michigan end up winning? My guess is a four and eight record would be the best they could do. I guess now all the UM fans know how us Irish fans felt last year. PJ in Jersey
Unlike ND that had the No. 1 recruiting class waiting in the wings, M doesn't have that luxury at this point. They lose 3 of their D linemen for next year and their QB situation is still unsettled. They're not heavily recruiting in the state and that means that MSU will be getting better in state recruits. Bottom line, they may be 2 years away from a winning season.
4-8 is probably a best case scenario, PJ. Both Purdue's and NW's QBs were injured and if they are out when we play them, those would be the two games we could put in the W column. I do not see us winning at Minnesota and there are not enough votive candles in the world to light to improve upon our chances when we go to Columbus. Rodriquez has a good recruiting class coming in next year but my guess is that we will be starting a a new QB more suited to run his offense. The two year estimate of Mike's seems on the money. I think our situation is similar to what happened Nebraska where a new coaching regime came in to bring a "new way" to a program that had decades of success but was in decline. The first year of the "new way" turned out to be an unmitigated disaster at both schools. The end result at Nebraska was that Callahan ran the program to the ground and a new administration decided that perhaps the past was not so bad after all, deep sixed the new way, and hired someone with ties to the past. Right now, I think RR will end up doing well here but do wonder how his style of offense will hold up in the Big Ten. Our O line is undersized and his philosophy seems to be the use of speed and deception to find seams in a defense that is spread out. But, right now our O-line has been getting mauled by B10 teams and no amount of speed and deception can help when your O-line is getting clubbed to death. But, again, the line is young so any judgments I make are premature.
