Interesting article. Michigan prez expresses doubt about college football in fall: None for Wolveries if students not on campus
Bill this is one of those situations where you are dammed if you do and dammed if you don't! Protection of the students should be paramount, but the economics of no football will end all sports teams with out the income from the football and basketball games. I never thought I would live to see this in our economy.
I will be surprised if football returns in the fall to the Big 10 and Michigan 1) does not open their campus for on campus classes and 2) declines to play football.
I am having trouble believing there will not be college football this fall and if there is the Big 10 will not field teams. But I could be wrong.
Interesting Stu. Here's another article about Ohio State but really applies to many other schools. Some of the programs that don't generate revenue could be in trouble. Samson: The issue with Ohio State's plan to have 20,000 fans attend football games this fall
ND Ath Director, Jack Swarbrick also has comments on getting things started up. He wants some fans in the stands, starting with the students. Masks, social distancing, even tailgating are topics of discussion. Swarbrick Outlines Potential Procedures For Notre Dame Home Games
I haven't heard anything from Texas AD, Chris Del Conte, recently. There are rumours floating around that Texas is shooting for 30K fans in the stands. Big 12 has said voluntary workouts can start June 15th. Big 12 Commissioner has said that he does expect a bumpy road and is worried that we'll start and then have problems midseason when the Flu starts to be an issue. He expects players to test positive during the season. I do wonder how that is going to be handled if a player or players test positive? It would seem that they have to isolate for 1 to 2 weeks and then get cleared by testing before they can return. I can't imagine how the season is impacted, esp if key player(s) for a team test positive.
No doubt this will be a football season to remember for a long time, regardless of how and still protect everyone? Another thought has crept into my thinking! Will ESPN and other streaming venues try to make TV games for fee only for the televised games?? That would irritate me to no end.
As we all know from experience 20 or 30,000 fans in the stands could make one helluva racket. How many times have I endured the noise from the southwest corner of the Swamp when the Tenn band is blaring Rocky Top while their ten thousand fans in attendance are singing at the top of their voices or "Hold That Tiger" similarly is coming out of that section when LSU does something good. So if 10,000 can do it then 20-30,000 will make it real for the home team.
Nice way to start a morning by reading that Harbaugh quote. Never played in a conference championship game; 0-5 against OSU...yeah, we were right on the cusp for a Natty.
Small school regional non-conference teams could remain local and not travel.... taking the place of other non-con teams that were scheduled to travel long distances to be cannon fodder. For instance....FIU could play at Florida on Sept. 5th instead of traveling to Minnesota and Eastern Washington could stay in the the Northwest instead of traveling all the way down to the Swamp. Eastern Washington could pick up their payday that day busing to Stanford while William and Mary from the east coast stays in their own region instead of flying all the way to the west coast.
