Is there a worse QB and Offense than Kyle Wrong and Miami in college football? That was a pathetic display by the Hurricanes. FSU was marginally better.
This game no longer deserves the Nat'l Spot light. FSU hasn't been very good for awhile now and Miami is on the decline. I had to laugh when one of the annoucners commented on how Coker has cleaned up Miami? Cleaned Up Miami!! LOL. Even Willie Williams transfered out rather than play with those guys. Terry
Terry, I believe Miami has lost their last three games, to Ga Tech, LSU and now FSU. And I don't believe they have scored a touchdown in the 2nd half of any of those games.
What were the rushing totals for each team? Neither could move the ball. Miami was (in best Bill Walton voice) horrrrible in the second half. Both teams seemed to have very fast defensive personnel. One more thing about FSU - boy, is that Fagg some receiver or what?
Good defenses, speed on special teams and average to poor offenses. Kyle Wright proved once again how much better than Chris Leak he is........WRONG....
8) BDR is attempting to goad me into a pun war. I'm sweating bullets, but so far, I'm resisting the urge... How about those broadcasters? All of the football fans that I know are more knowledgeable and articulate than those clowns. How'd you like their uncontested statement that "Nobody saw the pass interference that cost Miami the NC against Ohio State?" I don't even like Ohio State and I saw it clear as day. In fact, the only folks who didn't see it live in Miami. I've never heard anyone here in SoCal dispute that penalty. It was a good call... ...............JO'Co
Here's a CBS Sportsline article about the game. And for the record, FSU outrushed Miami, FSU had a -1 yard rushing and Miami had a -2 yards rushing. Grand total of -3 yards rushing. What Was Isn't What once was, definitely isn't anymore Dennis Dodd Sep. 5, 2006 By Dennis Dodd CBS SportsLine.com Senior Writer Tell Dennis your opinion! MIAMI -- Restore the Hurricanes to their natural habitat. Please return the Seminoles to their previous pristine state. This rivalry is best known for its epic missed kicks. Now it should just be missed. When we weren't looking, this game -- these teams -- started living off its/their rep. Miami and Florida State are great brand names, just not great programs. Where are the playmakers? Where are the players? For every Buster Davis (12 tackles, two sacks by the FSU linebacker), we can give you a still-shaky Drew Weatherford. For every Brandon Meriweather (interception by the All-American Miami safety), we can give you a questionable offensive line. At Miami? Wow. The Orange Bowl wetlands could have served as the backdrop to the end of an era during Florida State's 13-10 victory. (Or end of an error if you count the 15 penalties, six fumbles and two interceptions). Surely, you caught this nugget: Monday marked the first time neither Miami nor FSU entered the season in the AP top 10 since 1982. Twenty-four years. Bobby Bowden has golf carts that old. If not, try this one: The game didn't sell out. The on-and-off rain and the fickle nature of the local fans aren't excuses. This wasn't Wake Forest. This was Florida State, which is not without blame. The school returned 2,000 tickets out of its allotment. "This is one of those games you know it's going to be ugly," Bobby Bowden said. Yeah, but ugly and usually decided by superstars with championships at stake. Asked whether there could be a rematch in the ACC Championship Game, Bowden said: "There could, there could." For that to happen, FSU would have to get there. Miami might be sunk in the Coastal Division already. Putting this game on Labor Day started three years ago with so much fanfare. Now, by mutual agreement, it's over. The networks, the ACC, the coaches, everybody, agree. Let's try something new. This Labor Day special has expired. With the uber-coverage provided by a cable network, you could actually experience on many platforms (TV, internet, radio, smoke signals, carrier pigeon) how much the teams sucked. Before the cyber-outrage reaches my inbox, consider these undisputable truths: * Can we all agree now that Florida State has clearly dropped a notch from its previously lofty position in the top five at the beginning of this decade? Good, now let's move on ... * Lorenzo Booker (six rushes, negative-3 yards) is the most overrated back this side of Eric Dickerson. That's because Dickerson is retired, nearing 50, has bad knees. Booker is 22 and hasn't nearly produced what was expected of the nation's No. 1 recruit in 2002. * Booker is not alone. At no time should these two programs combine to rush for three yards. * There are still significant questions about the quarterbacks; Miami's Kyle Wright and Florida State's Drew Weatherford. FSU went two quarters without a first down. Miami went the last 35 minutes of the game with one first down. * The 6-foot-4 Wright is going to get his head taken off if he believes he is an effective scrambler. Without a running game, Weatherford (with Jeff Bowden at the controls) was forced to pass the clock out with 4:57 left. Three incomplete passes allowed Miami to get the ball back 50 seconds later. * Six new coaches, including a new offensive coordinator, have not relieved the pressure on Larry Coker. No one wants to hear about the four suspended players who may or may not have made a difference. "I want to make sure our fans don't give up on this football team," he said. Not what you want to hear after the season opener. At least there will be a decent waiting period -- until the Tuesday morning talk shows. The pressure increased immediately judging by Miami AD Paul Dee. At 11:55 p.m. ET, Dee made an angry sweep through the Miami locker room kicking out about 20 reporters, ending some interviews in mid-sentence. The game had been over for 29 minutes, the locker room open for a fraction of that time. What was Dee angry about? Take your pick: the criticism coming from a second consecutive loss to FSU, facing questions (and maybe a decision) about his coach, an ACC and national championship run lost perhaps before it began. "We're closed," Dee said to a reporter who approached him. "Good night." And good luck. Both teams will need it.
I watched the entire game and did not have an opinion until I read Dennis Dodd's piece. He is a hack and a whore. Now I have an opinion. I would not be too quick to write off either of these teams. At the end of the game, Bobby Bowden said, in effect, that the Miami defense could be the toughest in the country, except for FSU's. That's typical Bobby-esque following a close win, but it may not be far from the truth. Don't get me wrong. Neither team will contend for the NC, but one or both has the potential to be a BCS team by the end of the season. You won't often see two defenses with that much speed on the same field, which was a major factor in the ineptness of both offenses. While it's likely that these are not two of the country's most potent offenses (cue sarcasm meter), I'm inclined to wait several weeks before conducting a memorial service for either of these programs
Makes me think of Oklahoma's 13-2 win over FSU in the Orange Bowl for the national championship. The game wasn't a shoot-out, but it was a good one nonetheless.
That FSU defense is fast and ferocious. I'd like to have Mickey Andrews for a D-Coodinator and that Buster Davis(?) at MLB. That guy is an animal.
Sid, I have to admit that I don't care to much for Dodd either. But I will also say that while these two defenses looked pretty good their offenses seemed to help the other defense look good. I do think there is a possibility that College football is going through a stage where defenses may be dominant. Even Spurrier's fun and gun mentality couldn't seem to generate much in the way of scoring either last week or last season. Gator Bill
I was impressed with Buster Davis, played with passion. Lo Booker, whew...that guy just stinks. I hope he's getting his degree because he has no future in the NFL.
Terry, Re: Booker. Wasn't he the guy who ND thought they had locked up, then he appeared on national TV and donned a FSU cap? All I can say is......Whew! Glad he did not come to ND. I was just talking to an associate who also watched the game. He said it looked like each coach assigned his 11 fastest players to the defense and the offense got what was left, which wasn't much.
Sid, I'm with you.....I don't think we know enough to determine with any degree of certainty if the inept offensive performances - and they were inept - were not simply due to great, great defensive football teams. Time will tell, but I don't think there is any question that those are two fine defenses. That said, my gut tells me that this is Coker's last year. Terry
I'll predict on a limb that UF rushes for at least 75-80 yards vs. FSU and UF is not much of a rushing team as we know. I also look for Leak to have 250 yds. plus passing and for the Gators to score at least 20 points in Tallahassee. That should be enough as I don't see FSU scoring more than 17 on Florida with the offensive offense the nolies have.
It came down to miami's inability to put FSU away in the first half. They killed themselves with sacks and penalties, causing them to get out of field goal range countless times. It almost seemed like Fsu started at midfield every drive. Finally in the 4th quarter they forgot about the run game, which was awful, and let weatherford throw some nice cross patterns. 2 Big First Half Plays: Monroes shank gave FSU great field position to get 3 points. It was clear FSU's offence wasnt going anywhere and miamis punter bascially gave them 3 free points. These 3 points would turn out to be huge as the final score was 13-10. Meriweathers Int before the half gave miami the ball at the 15, and it seemed like they were about to put FSU away for good. Typical Miami though, block in the back and a devastating sack on kyle wright. For some reason Kyle thought he could outrun everyone instead of throwing the ball away when he needed to. Jeff Bowden made adjustments in the second half, and miami just sat on their lead. Yes, a crucial dropped pass hurt with about 2 min left, but who knows if miami could of got anything going at that point. I agree with some of you, coker is done by this year unless he runs the table. Could tyrone moss and ryan moore have made that much of a difference...We will never know. Go Gators...The best team in the state of Florida
Man FSU sure doesn't have a daunting schedule left. Maybe only W.Va and Louisville have easier roads to undefeated seasons.
