Here is a poll now on ESPN about what kind of pro JFF will be: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/poll/conversation/_/id/4250573 Before Tebow was basically blackballed I felt like JFF could have a storied NFL career. But if Tebow's production... especially on the ground and his sense of winning games isn't enough to get a legitimate chance in the NFL post Denver then I don't think Manziel will make it either. I don't think Manziel will have the durability for one thing. I see nagging and/or serious injuries in his future that will slow him down and without his legs he is nothing special. I voted him in the poll as NFL "back-up"..... and I notice 50% of the poll respondents voted bust or back-up. I am a little cynical now about the NFL politics and what they are looking for in a Qb who excels at winning games.... but has a little extra baggage like Manziel does or an unorthodox style at the Qb position like his.
So AJ... what do you think of Manziel's chances? The Tebow thing clouds the issue in my opinion..... is related.... because the Manziel intangibles like Tebow intangibles can't be measured on the practice field. I don't know that Manziel is prototypically what the NFL GMs are looking for. But he sure was an electric QB to watch in college.
I wouldn't draft JFF. He's not a groomed QB at the QB posistion....same problem Tebow had...Wilson of Seattle has skills that make him a better canditate at the spot....Kaepernick in SF is so so....you run the ball with RB's, you pass the ball with QB's that know what they're doing....in the NFL at least. JFF is a scattered Rabbit in the pocket....everyone will see soon enough.
I agree.... like Tebow he keeps his team competitive with his legs and feet and winning spirit. But that may not be enough to sway GM's these days to part with the millions. Their ass is probably handed to them if they take a flyer these days on intangibles. They probably need to point to the quantitative.... purely objective data to support their decisions to pay all that Qb money. I'll be surprised if JFF has that kind of data to support his high draft status Elusiveness, toughness, decision making, competitiveness, knack for making plays etc etc..... all just ******** when it comes to covering one's GM ass in the NFL. We'll see in April if JFF..... who possesses all of those things and more.... is valued for them.
Dude, This topic makes no sense. Tebow and Manziel are NOTHING alike. (For one thing JF can actually throw the ball.) There are no conclusions you can draw about Manziel's future based on Tebow's past. Let it go.
Why then Scott do you think half of the respondents in the poll think Manziel will be a benchwarmer or a bust? Maybe they think he just has those "other than passing qualities" I mentioned ..... or that those specific skills are not well suited to playing QB in the NFL. I personally think that unless he is nailed by a Ray Lewis on Rashard Mendenhall type hit that JFF will be an NFL star....... if his style that suits him so well isn't incessantly tampered with by some overzealous coach who thinks he should be the next Peyton Manning.
Day 656. All the local talk today was Johnny Manziel and how he blew everybody away with his workout. Also his Jersey, Black #2, from the workout is available from Nike!
In other unrelated news, Kenny Hill of A&M, who is competing for the starting QB job this fall...was arrested for public intoxication and suspended from the team. He'll be autographing memorbilia in the Bryan county jail!
Apparently Manziel's workout results have swayed a few poll voters with 330,000 counted. 54% now say he will be a solid starter or pro bowler vs. 46% saying back-up or bust. Hey if this were an American political vote he would be a slam dunk success based on such a "mandate"...... and 46 % therefore don't know their ass from a hole in the ground...
Man <t>He'll never come close to duplicating what he did in college in the NFL, never. Been tried already. Fun to watch him play college ball though!</t>
And therein lies the conundrum. Being a great college football player should stand on its own. It does not depend on performance in the NFL for validation. 8)
Something deep down is bugging me as you know about the Tebow deal. I have been thinking black helicopter style that there is a guideline of sorts for maintaining your good coaching/GM standing in the NFL. So many millions of dollars are involved l
You know MCG, Tebow was a great college qb. All of your emphasis on his pro career kind of detracts from that. At least to me it does :?
Yeah.... different world in the NFL Kp.....that's business I guess. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't and sometimes you win and you still lose. 8) It is what it is..... just know that the Gator nation .... not just me.... is going to always scratch our collective heads over it.... but it does seem to be a done deal.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> It does, and he is a great college football player. My point is only that that style of QB play, at least to this point, hasn't translated well to the NFL. It would be great if it did. My highly unqualified prediction is it won't.</r>
So at 46% there are a lot of people responding to this poll that must feel the same way about Manziel.
