The Angels are trying to avoid all of this next year by giving Trout an extension now. If Machado is worth a third of a billion, then Trout is worth the Golden Gate bridge.
10 years is going to be a millstone around the Padres necks eventually. We had one of those types of deals with Jeff Bagwell, problem was that in the last few years of the deal he was barely able to play, he had shoulder issues that made it nearly impossible to play in the field. But he had that contract, the Astros tried to negotiate a buyout at a lower amount but he was adamant and wanted every penny he'd been guaranteed by the contract. It could be that Manny is that one who will stay productive and healthy for the next 10 years, but it's more likely he'll be struggling with age/health/etc in the last few years of the deal. And JO'Co is right, there is no way the Padres can now ask Trout to even take the same deal, it'll have to be better.
$30 mil per year for 10 years. That gets you a .282 BA, 31 HRs, 91 RBIs and 117Ks per year. If I were Brian Cashman I would send the Padres a dozen long stem roses. If Trout does not re-sign early look for the Yankees to go hard for him next year. Like $35-40 million per hard.
I can't imagine Trout in the fishbowl in NYC. He hardly likes to do anything to promote his "brand" as they say today. Trout in the NYC fishbowl, that doesn't compute to me.

Trout was born and raised in south Jersey and stays there most of the off season.. I know the Phillies will go hard for him. The Yankees would take him out to Monument Park and let him reserve a spot.
Next up Harper. No doubt he gets a similar contract. The money is unbelievable. But if it was offered to me I would have to sign.
The Dodgers are making a push for Harper. They won't give him ten years, but they might give him $40 million per year for four years. They had a meeting yesterday.
