Peyton surely aspires to get on this list but he has a ways to go as I previously have noted: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0608/gallery.NFLclutchqbs/content.1.html my bad.....
Peyton is one of the all-time great bomb throwers! Highly coveted by the Falujah Rams of the Middle Eastern Football League (MEFL).
Seems to be a slight bias to more recent QB's, kinda like most polls in sports. Other less recent candidates that might have been as good as some of those listed would be Len Dawson, Bob Griese, Fran Tarkington, Roger Staubach (as BobW mentioned), and a bunch of others I'm sure I've forgotten.
I second BobW's and Stu's comments. Too many great clutch QBs were left off the list. It includes the no-brainers, but overall it's not credible.
Remember...it's a list of only 10 so who on the list would you leave out? With such a limited list there sure isn't any room for Peyton...or is it because he is not a "clutch" performer....yet.
Don't know that I'd leave anybody off the list...I'm not smart enough to know whether Tom Brady is better in the clutch than Len Dawson...I just said that the list is biased toward more recent star quarterbacks.
Stu, You'll have to keep up your pace of .64 posts a day, but if you do you should reach 2000 sometime in Sept 2007, while if I keep up my pace of 7.44 posts a day it will take me till Sept 2008! I'd have to jump it up to almost 12 posts a day to make it!! Is it ok if I hire a proxy to fill in the gaps when I'm actually working or sleeping!! Terry
YA is a good one. What about fabled Lions QB Bobby Lane as far a clutch performer? Gipper might chime in on him.
I wasn't living in Detroit when Bobby Layne played (was rooting for Y.A. Tittle back then. He's certainly legendary around here both on and off the field. While I was a big Jets (and Titans) fan, I never considered Joe Willie that clutch. I thought Ken Stabler was pretty tough in the clutch.
Brady Quinn talked to Peyton Manning this summer about handling all the Heisman hype and the expectations, when asked to sum up what Peyton told him. Brady said Peyton told him to watch out for the Gator DB's!! Terry
Terry As I recall that picture was taken in Soldier's Field folling the NFC Championship game. The Bear defense really laid it on the Giants that game. Like Marino he got there but didn't win the Championship.
