http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/17903417/report-peyton-manning-to-the-broncos-denver-will-try-to-trade-tim-tebow Trading the guy who has sold out the stadium for a guy who very well should sell out the stadium.....and had better sell out the stadium with the price tag he brings. We'll see how mobile Mr. Manning is behind that Denver offensive line.
I don't know how much success they will have trading Tebow, inspite of your Gatorade vision of Tebow, he's really got no value as a starting QB in the NFL. Nobody will be looking for him as a starter, I'll bet they will have a hard time getting better than a 4th round choice for him, if that. He has a future as a situational QB at this time, he's a below avg passer and that won't get you a starting job. Great story last year, but inspite of it he's got a long ways to go and I doubt if he'll ever get there.
It's a passing league Dave.... How 'bout this...keep TBow and put him behind Manning at RB? Sounds like home field sellouts to me...wait a minute Denver already does that, even Post Elway, Pre TBow...I know, raise the prices of tickets.
The only question now is does Manning play a year and retire or end up in wheel chair. I think he is out of his mind for playing.
I could see Tebow sitting and learning from Manning for a year...maybe two. Tebow has that kind of humility. His fans don't want to see it but Tebow would agree to something like that. Besides.....you never know truly how good/bad that Denver OL really is and if Tebow had to dance around and find running space then Manning could be in for a rough time. And.....I think Tebow will win....HIS WAY.....wherever he goes. Ask the Pittsburgh Dbs if Tebow can pass: "The Steelers crowded the line of scrimmage and dared Tebow to beat the NFL's top-ranked defense with his sometimes erratic left arm. Tebow obliged by throwing for 316 yards and a pair of long touchdowns, including the dart Demaryius Thomas turned into the quickest overtime score in NFL playoff history." Last I looked throwing means passing.
George, I have to agree with you! Time to retire and move on with his life and leave a very favorable career in the record books. He certainly does not need the money!
MCG. While I am a Tebow fan, I can't fault the Broncos for this move. Manning is one of the best QB ever to play this game and if he can stay heathy and perform at the level he had performed at in the recent past, he immediately turns Denver into one one of the best teams in the NFL. But, I wish he had chosen not to retrun as it seems he is running a horrible risk of suffering a catastrophic injury returning to football after having had a cervical fusion. I do not think the plating and grafing used to fuse a level of the spine are probably designed to withstand anything near the forces that are placed upon the spine from a sport as violent as football.
I'm a huge Tebow fan, but in the NFL, Manning at 70% is better than Tebow at 100%. Give Manning and the teams' managements credit for knowing what he can and cannot do. Correct, he doesn't need the money, but it is well known in Indianapolis that his competitive nature has no equal. I'm betting that he returns to the field every bit as effective as his old self. I also have no doubt that the nation's finest medical specialists have given him the green light to take the hits that will be administered to him. The Denver Broncos just gained tens of thousands of fans east of the Mississippi including me.
....really now? Have you seen Tebow play? Manning may be a better pure NFL Qb....but I'll stake Tebow's competitive spirit up against his anytime.
The last year Manning played 2010 he averaged 294 yds PER GAME against defenses that were trying to stop the pass. According to George And yet he wants to go out and play. Why risk that kind of injury? Seems like quite a competitive spirit to me!
These guys at the end of their careers play for the applause. That is what they cannot do without. Money doesn't even come close to adulation. Peyton Manning has had adults fawning over him since he was in pre-school. Four neck surgeries in the last few years. He is taking an incredible risk. And for what? He is one bad hit away from competing in the Wheelchair Olympics.
For the record I agree with those that say he needs to pack it in and go play with his money. Why risk paralysis?? I never said he wasn't competitive Gipper......just not so much more competitive than anyone else in the league as Sid put it....especially the ultra competitive Tebow. Heck when Manning was in the midst of losing to Florida for his last college try vs. the Gators in his senior season I was at the game and it was evident he was trying his ass off to mount a rally......and even though he fell short he had me worried because It was evident he was determined. Unless Elway beefs up that O-line that even the great Kyle Orton couldn't get protection from....resulting in loss after loss.......I think PM will be running for his life......literally.....and he ain't no Tebow when it comes to that.
I think this is the end of Tebow in Denver. Elway now has a way of dropping him without the ire of the fans. Personally I don't think Elway ever wanted Tebow as the QB. Having said that I sure don't fault anyone for signing Manning. Heck I was hoping he would sign with the Dolphins.
Agreed that Manning is maybe one of only three Qbs in the NFL that could come into Denver and not cause a fan revolt about the ousting of Tebow. ....and that says a ton about the first year starter.
In a positive article about Denver's signing of Manning there was this comment about the talent on hand: "shaky receiving corps"..... I saw those guys make some great plays last year but also drop balls on numerous occasions that were right in their hands. Maybe they learn to catch better or maybe Elway spends even more money to find better Wrs. It will be an interesting thing to watch in the off season and in the coming season. Additionally....Peyton will make the offensive line better on the one hand with quick release but worse on the other with lack of mobility.
Tebow's penchant for tucking the ball and taking off at the first sign of pressure helped hide a rather poor Bronco line. Manning will need every nanosecond of his quick release.
And with no serious threat of a Qb running for positive yards the defenses will pin their ears back on obvious passing plays.....such as will be needed in comeback situations like Tebow was able to pull off last year.
Yeah Manning is pretty stupid when it comes to evaluating a teams offense, he probably only considered the money and never even considered the OL and the fact that only if he could run like Tebow could he have a chance. It was all about the money.
