Quote from him during media day Tuesday. It's pretty easy to see why Texas fans like him. He wins and does it with class.
Mack's riding high these days. He does talk family a lot, you'll notice that whenever a player is in trouble he always mentions that he'll talk with the kids family before he decides something. In the most recent incident where a player who is on academic suspension got caught with felony robbery he dismissed him from the team but mentioned that he did so after talking to the players family. I've been told that you don't get an offer from Mack unless you and your family make a trip to Austin and meet personally with Mack. Then after the meeting he tells you that you have an offer if you are ready to accept right then, if you don't then you don't have an offer. He usually get's a yes and that is why he is always got 18 or 19 verbals by the time May rolls around. I was told that a few years ago he was interested in a LB from Salt Lake City who he refused to offer unless the kid and his family made the trip to Austin, the kid and the family didn't want to make the trip unless they had an offer...the kid went elsewhere. But even though Mack is popular with Texas fans, he also has come under a lot of criticism in his time there, most with regard to his unwavering support of Greg Davis his OCoord. This year has been an odd year because inspite of the undefeated record the team has struggled on offense at times and if they have a bad offensive game against Bama you can bet the airwaves will be hot with callers who are mad at Mack for his support of Greg Davis. He hasn't had anywhere near the universal support of the fans that Meyer has had at UF. More love/hate type of thing.
