Gentlemen, I have learned that over time, a MacBook battery will swell which is a less than desirable condition. If you own a MacBook, at least the 13" Aluminum unibody version, the battery is directly below the trackpad. My battery swelled to about 20% thicker that it was new. I thought that I had trackpad issues. The trackpad was difficult to use the mouse click function. I also noticed that the battery compartment door didn't quite fit flush with the bottom of the MacBook. I pulled the battery out and ran straight off of wall outlet power. The MacBook functioned as if it were new. I found original Mac batteries for $42 each, shipping included. New OEM MacBook batteries on Ebay
How long did it take for this to happen Tom? Is it a well known MacBook problem, is it limited to MacBooks or also includes MacBook Pro's.
It was not an overnight issue. My MacBook was purchased on 11/29/08 and this is the original battery. I'm not aware of this being a publicly notified issue and may be limited to only my battery. Just posted this to make everyone here aware that they should do periodic checks on their batteries. With my model, it takes nothing more than monitoring changes to the operation and feel of the trackpad. Better safe than sorry.
Oh wow Tom. We have two Mac Books and I had to order a battery this summer for the newer one. I paid $100 from Apple. Wish I had checked out ebay.
Oh, I forgot to mention that we haven't had the battery swelling problem with either Mac Book. The old one is still humming along with the original battery. It is about 5 years old, the one that I had to replace the battery is probably about 3 years old.
