Look for some wild stuff this afternoon in Baton Rouge. It should be a great game but I'm really talking about the fans. Apparently, they had a big pep rally last night and burned Saban in effigy. Now that is not so unusual but this is LSU. I will be pleasantly surprised is there is not some kind of very violent behavior during and/or after this game, especially if Alabama wins.
Poor LSU, stuck with Les Miles and a National Championship. I can see why they're so irate.....no I can't.
LSU was a better team vs. Bama playing at home and playing Bama than they showed vs. Florida in Gainesville. Comparatively Florida owns their mutual opponents like LSU and Ky except that Bama eeked a win out over Miss while the Gators eeked out a loss to the pesky Rebs. Actually that loss helped to fuel the fire that now burns white hot in the Gator's belly. Maybe it was essential to UF's success.
yes, because comparative scores is always the best way to tell which SEC team is best especially when it justifies your overall point. (of course the Pac10 exemption is in place because comparative scores prove nothing about them) I'm sure the Tide will be in Atlanta waiting for you regardless of how impossible the task ahead of them may seem. In fact, I can't believe what I am watching unfold. The undefeated #1 team in the nation is headed into their conference title game and will be a massive underdog with all the hype and praise being heaped upon Florida. Hell, it started 2 weeks ago. Nick Saban couldn't ask for more...
Maybe you haven't seen the Gators play. Florida has dominated opponents that Bama struggled with. Bama's good no doubt but you have to draw from comparative opponents if they exist or you have nothing to go on.
Great game. I had a bad feeling when Tiffin was blocked at the end of reg, but a huge pick in OT by Rashad Johnson on gave Bama another opportunity. Nice hookup to Julio Jones in OT. RTR!
Bryan, Nice win for your lads Dave, You don't have to when they play each other on Dec 6th. BTW-I've watched the Gators play 7 times this year.
Alabama showed a lot of grit in that win yesterday afternoon and on the road too boot. Congratulations. I am not sure on that first TD that was ruled a touchback? It appeared to me the ball crossed the plain of the goal line, prior to the fumble? Don
Dave, If you use comparative scores, you must use all games. You have a loss against Ole Miss while Bama has a win. How does that change your assumptions?
Pleasantly surprised. Apparently there were no bad incidents in Baton Rouge last night, and actually there seemed to be alot of mutual respect and good sportsmanship between the players. I never thought there would be a problem on the field but I was worried about after the game on the way out of town.
MCG, The object of the game is to win every one of them. There are only a few teams left that have done that so far. If margin of victory was the object of the game then Florida would be right up there with USC, OU, Mizzou, and whoever else you want to come up with. Right now, MSU is the most important game Alabama has. We'll find out soon enough about Alabama and Florida. I don't want our players to look past our next game, but then I guess I don't have to tell you about what happens when a team does that, do I?
I honestly do not know which is the better team. We'll find out in a few weeks. What I know is that Alabama is a tough, gritty team that refuses to lose and does what in necessary to win in close situations regardless of who is the opponent. Florida is a window dressing team with the personality of its coach, very strong, very fast, and not hesitant to run up the score to get people's attention. In their only close game of the season so far they couldn't get it done. Florida indeed may be the better team, although using comparative scores they only beat Arkansas by 31 points and Alabama beat them by 34. In a close hard fought game, I'd have to pick the Tide.
The question is Sid....why does Bama consistently have these close competitive games with teams that Florida manhandles from the start? It is a little puzzling and is definitely the reason why the pundits ( and oddsmakers ) like Florida in this game. Now....as Kp said they both need to focus on winning the rest of them....and that is a task that won't come easy for Florida with a resurgent SouCar and a game at a newly competitive FSU in Tallahassee. I don't quite get that comment....maybe you haven't seen the BCS standings? UF is quite up there in the mix and the ESPN BCS "expert" now has the winner of Fla-Bama in the NC game.....provided they both win the rest of their games.
What about Ole Miss? I swear to God Dave.. you are the biggest ruby-red-slipper-wearing, heel clicking to make it all go away SOB on this board and I've grown to love that about ya.. It is the style of play. Florida scores quick and uses a lot of perimeter speed mixed in with some deep balls... Your offense is designed not to sit on the ball...but rather to score. Their offense is designed to hold possession of the ball.... You want to move 15 yards at a time, they want to move it 4 at a time. Let us not forget that LSU's biggest rival is Alabama. That is something you just seem to be looking right past. This was their game of the year. I think that was the best they have played and they aren't capable of more than they gave last night... They burned the coach in effigy for goodness sakes. The state of Louisiana doubled their security detail for Nick Saban... Also, I thought that was melonhead's best called game of the year. They are a power running football team and they totally abandoned that to try to run some 5 wide bullsh*t against you guys. I think if LSU stays with the power game against you, that it may well change the complexion of the game.
Ole Miss actually supports my argument. The only team to play Florida close....beating the Gators with a blocked extra point....also gave Bama a very close tough game as well. Georgia also got well behind Bama and never caught up while the Gators stepped on the dawgs hapless little canine throat and never relented until rigor mortis had set in . So most comparisons favor Florida and the picture might look different if the Tide blew out Ole Miss instead of struggling with the Rebs as they did. In the non-con UF won by 23 over a decent Miami squad and Bama won by 24 over Clemson....maybe a push. The Tide only beat Tulane by 14 however so that doesn't compare very well. In any event these are the reasons UF would be favored....provided the Gators can stay focused and take care of business.
Fla 63 Kentucky 5 Ala 17 Ky 14 There will be good reasons why UF will be favored......if both win out. If they do UF will be favored by 5 points. So Tom....you think Florida would be favored because of their spiffy Orange and Blue unis?
MCG, Let me explain, If the object of the game was to win by very big margins of victory then Florida would probably be no.1. however I contend that the object is to win ALL of the games, ergo Alabama is no. 1. Now like I said, right now, Alabama needs to forget about everything but the MSU game. The rest will take care of itself.
Congrats, you win the Liberace style points award. They beat Ole Miss, you didn't. Thank God for Dec 6th.
