That means no BCS game for the SECCG loser. And pretty much locks up Fla/ND for the Sugar Bowl.

Assuming USC beats UCLA, I really like the idea of an LSU/M match-up. I do not believe we have ever played LSU before and Miles is a former M player and ass't coach.

LSU has a ton of talent and matches up well with M. This could be one of the most entertaining bowl games this season.

I guess this also means a ND/Fla Sugar Bowl match up if Fla beats Arkansas which will make the SB a busy place for the nest few weeks.

LSU/Mi and Fla/ND would the most watched bowl games outside of USC/OSU.

I listened to WDFN talk radio in Detroit this pm and to a man every caller hated...absolutely despised the idea of a ND-Mi rematch.

    So do I.

I also hate the idea of Louisville in the Sugar instead of ND.

Hopefully Florida does their part. ND gets in because they are ND and for nothing else. That's life in the bowl system.

You just can't help yourself, can you?

The almighty Gators of the almighty SEC better beat ND in the Sugar Bowl. If not, your life around here will be a living hell.

God, you guys are good!

So LSU is 10-2 and didn't even win their division and gets to go to a BCS bowl because.....
ND is going to a BCS because they are 10-2 and are ND. Go figure.

Whatever bowl has Notre Dame in it will be the most watched game regardless of who they play. Its that way every year.

    Next!

That's not news. If I had not been at the Army game, I would have been watching the MI-OSU game during the second half of the ND-Army game.

    I do believe

<t>that ND had 3 of the highest rated games on tv this year, did they not? How was NDs share for the games against M, USC, GTech, Penn State etc....</t>

I wouldn't have watched Mi/OSU if somebody had paid me, not when there is a Notre Dame game on to watch, and I didn't watch Mi/OSU!! Who won?

The point of the post, Corey, was to mildly refute the claim that any game involving Notre Dame will outdraw any other game excluding a limited area in Houston.

I don't know the answer to your question but suspect that the figures would involve a fair amount of apples to oranges comparisons given that the NBC games go out to a national audience while the Saturday afternoon ABC games are regional except on rare occasions with the ESPN games being available only to cable and dish subscribers. I tried to find out the best rating for the ABC Saturday night games since that would probably be the fairest sample to test but could not find the answer

However, with regard to the question of which team has the most positive impact on bowl ratings, the result may surprise you:

    I found this:

    The TV Factor

Last Saturday's Notre Dame-USC game turned out to be the second-most-watched college football game in the past decade, topped only by the Nov. 18 No. 1 vs. 2 showdown between Ohio State and Michigan.

Notre Dame-Georgia Tech and ND-Michigan State also were big ratings winners in prime time, and the Irish-Michigan game Sept. 16 was a breakout game by afternoon standards. And then there was last year's all-Midwest, Ohio State-ND matchup in the Fiesta Bowl, the highest-rated of the non-championship BCS games.

LSU, as a national ratings draw, is somewhat of an unknown, or at least an untested quantity.

"We do look at TV ratings very closely, because TV ratings drive our brand identity," Dorger said. "When we go to renegotiate our contract in the coming years, we're going to have to lay our TV ratings on the line. So yes, we're looking at good TV ratings."

    Bottom Line: Advantage Notre Dame.

    8) :p

    ...and then I found this...

The LA Times has a pretty good breakdown of the Rose Bowl possiblities this morning, speculating that Michigan vs LSU is the most likely matchup. That's probably how it's going to shake out. But there's one thing that everyone's assuming: that Michigan is definitely going to Pasadena, given the long-standing ties between the Integer and the Rose. But should we automatically assume that? Considering the fact that...

    1) ND, with its well-travelled fans and high TV ratings in tow, is the darling of the bowl set, and
    2) Michigan has already been to the Rose two of the last three years, and
    3) nobody wants a ND-UM rematch, and
    4) the Rose has carte blanche to pick its teams,

maybe an LSU-Notre Dame matchup is more attractive to the Rose? Believe it or not, I chatted with two different people "in the know" this week who said it's at least being considered by the Rose Bowl committee.

The Rose picking ND over Michigan? Chuckle. We'd have screwed them over twice.

Well, I'm glad you got some twisted comfort from the ass kicking that USC dished out to you guys.
