Probably would be a good move for them. I keep expecting that FSU might bolt. Seems Bobby Bowden made a bad decision when he turned down the SEC. Add Miami to that list. Louisville to SEC?
Well Louisville is not an esp good match for the ACC in terms of culture and academics, but they have a good and well rounded athletic program with ACC level basketball and football. From a strictly athletic point this is a good move for Louisville and for the ACC. I really thought that the B12 should have added Louisville and Cincinnati myself. I can't imagine the Big East's future. At this point it would seem like a better deal for the old Big East teams who don't play football like Georgetown, St. Johns, Providence, Seton Hall to consider going to the A10 and beefing up that league as a basketball conference and controlling their travel costs.
At this point the Big East really should just dissolve. The Basketball only schools like DePaul, Marquette, GTown, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Providence and Villanova should go their own way and see if they can grab some A10 schools like Xavier and Dayton maybe even St. Joe's and a couple of others and form a new conference without football.
As part of the new ND-ACC deal, Notre Dame will play 5 games against ACC opponents per year. The opponents will rotate. I believe they will rotate on a 3/2 ratio. (3 games at ACC schools and 2 at ND one year, 3 at ND and 2 at ACC schools the next). With Louisville now a member of the ACC, it's only a matter of time until the Fightin Irish are gracing the friendly confines of that horse track monstrosity off of I65 in Louisville. The upside is, like a lot of these SEC schools, it will be within easy driving distance for me. Still... blah on playing at Papa John's stadium.
I just saw that Fla Atlantic and Middle Tenn are moving to C-USA to replace Tulane and East Carolina. They said that Middle Tenn is the largest public university in Tenn? Larger than the University of Tenn? That'd be like Texas State or UT San Antonio being larger than the University of Texas? What's up with that?
I'm not sure but I'd imagine that Murfreesboro being right down the road from Nashville has a whole lot to do with that. I want to say that it's easier admissions into Middle Tennessee than it is UT, but am not certain. (I'd be surprised if that's not the case).. The Nashville and M'boro area are exploding and have been for some time. While I too am a bit surprised, I don't find it really shocking. It's a state college (Ag is their thing I believe) in a growing area. It happens.
My son graduated from MTSU. It is indeed the biggest campus in the state but doesn't have all the regional branches/students that UT has.
Only thing I knew about MTSU was where the frat row parties were held. Went to one the night that Cindy and I met.
In a classic ACC/ Big 10 football match up tonight Louisville of the ACC went into Big 10 country at Rutgers and came away with a solid road win!
