take advantage of the limbo that UF is in with Meyer on the recruiting trail. Fisher is putting together a nice staff that should revive their recruiting. Mark Stoops as the DCoord. I'm starting to read recruits notice that.
Any links? UF has had a very hot start to recruiting tthis year and would have to have several defections with no new additions to fall back out of the top 5 or 6. Could happen I guess.
No it's too late to seriously affect the class that will sign in 2010. But look out for the 2011 class, Meyer being in limbo all through the spring and summer will make many kids think twice about signing up for UF and FSU will be the main benefactor with a hot new staff reminding those kids at every chance that Urban is just a heart beat (or no heart beat) away from retirement.
Terry, I agree. That was my point in an earlier thread. I understand Meyer's health is a concern and he has to take care of that, however it seems like a leave of absence doesn't really address that. It may postpone it but it doesn't seem to address it.
Those could be factors in next year's recruiting no doubt. I think Meyer will need corrective action and a clean bill of health to diffuse that.
With the class that UF is bringing in this year and the great recruiting from previous years, UF can survive an average class in 2011.
Agreed Terry.... What level of survival though? As we saw this year it takes sooooo much to stay at the top. I think my original premise that I trotted out 2-3 years ago about a successful year is one that your team wins 10 or more games and finishes with a high profile bowl win and a top 5 finish is still a pretty good rule of thumb. I would be happy next year if Fla could pull that off.
Looks like it. Listen the Noles have taken a couple of players from us each of the last couple of years with the biggest issue being playing time. If Elam switched because of the Urban Meyer announcements then so be it, life will move on. If we hold this class together and Meyer comes back we will be fine. FSU needs far more than this one commitment to be more competitive with the Gators, especially on the OL. The Gators will be fine and I'm not sure this one is over either.
I see Fla got 5* WR Chris Dunkley today...looks like a good one. I was hoping he'd surprise and put on a houndstooth hat--not to be! Roll Tide!
We also got Dominique Easly a defensive end who had been committed to Penn State. Get two lose one, we can live with that.
Two excellent pickups. You guys came out on top in that deal. I have heard that Easley is barely (if at all) qualified.
I don't know which ones you are talking about George, but if you are talking about the Gator class an they can't get into Notre Dame then that's not a part of Notre Dame I don't care for my team to copy. Terry, I also have the feeling that Elam is not a sure thing for FSU either. However I don't expect Florida would spend a lot of time trying to get him back at this point. But I do expect some effort.
I don't follow recruiting, especially for schools other than ND, but I saw a brief article this morning that said Elam is having second thoughts about having dropped his commitment to Florida. I don't know what that means, but I'm sure the Florida folks will be keeping an eye on the situation.
Sid, he's decommited from FSU and will make us announcement at the Army game Sat. I believe it's between Florida, Georgia and FSU.
The game is in the 4th quarter and so far the Gators have a recommitment from Matt Elam and a commitment from DT Sharrif Floyd, both 5* according to Scout. Gators are hoping for one more commitment before the day is over.
Thanks Terry and we just added Ronald Powell another 5* DE. I'm shocked they way things seem to be going for the Gators.
