For those fanatics who actually watched Boise State blow out Oregon State Thursday night...

My grandkids used to go to birthday parties in San Dimas and a local kid from the neighborhood was usually there. When he went to high school at my alma mater (Damien HS) I was amazed that he played football. He was so skinny, that it looked like a strong breeze would blow him away. But he became an all-league running back and one of the better TBs in the history of the school, but his weight (5' 10" 160) scared most colleges away. Only one school, Boise State, took a chance on him and he's now a sophomore TB at that school...

Last Thursday, against Oregon State, that kid, Ian Johnson ran for 240 yards and 5 friggen touchdowns against the Beavers. He could have had more, but they sat him out to hold down the score. He's still too light; they list him at 195lbs, but he's really 180, and its all heart.

If you get a chance, check out Boise State's Ian Johnson...

I watched most of the game until Boise put it out of reach. That kid reminded me of my son in HS, although he never scored 5 TDs in a game. Isn't it amazing JO'Co that you can remember this kid as a little boy while watching his outstanding performance in a college football game? It's one of the joys of aging.

BTW My daughter Jenny and her husband Grady also ran into the family of a current Notre Dame player when they were on vacation this summer. They told me that the player's family mentioned that he was an entering freshman who had a lacrosse scholarship, but he was actually going there to play football...

That could only have been the family of TE Will Yeatman from San Diego...

PS. Sid and I must be on the same wave somehow. I used to think of his son when I watched Ian Johnson play HS football. I've often thought that size is a very overrated quality for running backs...
