Did anybody see that in the intro? They were camming through the Chinese Taipei bench, and one of the kids gave the throat slash sign...can't wait for the uproar on this...
I'm a huge baseball fan and coached at the LL level for eleven years and I can't stand the entire premise of the LL world series. I find it one of the most disengenuous sporting events of any I have ever seen.
Chula Vista does it!! Chula Vista, Home of Humberto's Taco shop....Great Carne's and Fresh Horchata!!
those kids could swing it... I watched the 1st round of action.. Emailed back and forth with my Dad. I thought the real World Series title game was the Warner Robbins, GA vs Chula Vista, CA game played in the US Semi-finals. San Antonio was a fine team but didn't seem to have the depth to win over the grind.. Taiwan showed well for themselves today.
Very.... <t>Happy for another USA title where it belongs. The key was the bases loaded great DP by te the Vista SS. You could see the wind go out of those CT kids. <br/> <br/> USA wins, Cards win and Cubs lose. Nice Sunday.</t>
I seems just a little strange to me to see kids 6 ft. tall and 212 lbs. playing in these games. With that murder's row that Cal. had it was nice to see that 2nd baseman Graft come up with a couple of really key hits. Did it seem like the Taipai pitchers threw about 90% breaking balls?
You nailed it Gipper. These are 12 year olds. Or at least are supposed to be. Every once in a while one of them gets outed. Some of them look like they are shaving. And the breaking balls. No LL coach worth his salt teaches that. It's strictly fastball-changeup. But at this rodeo you got gets throwing 12-6 curves, cut fastballs and sliders. Brent Musberger pisses his pants gushing over it and what's worse, so do the ex- MLB players who should know better.
The CA LL's are brutally tough on birth certificates. It was a source of great frustration for years. Leagues in CA were losing kids born in El Salvador with iffy birth certificates but Taiwan is putting out teams full of kids nearly 6 feet tall.. That all blew up in the 90s and the US started winning the WS again. My skin was crawling listening to Mosseturder apologizing what Taiwan was busted for years ago.. The whole drawing from a larger pool than legal was the tip of the iceberg. The birth certificate issue couldn't be proved because the govt was helping them cheat. How many of those 'great' players went on to star..even in Japan?? Not many if any at all. So much was made of that kid Luke Ramirez, but their best player was that Kiko Garcia.. The kid entered the World Series batting 14-16 with 12 HRs. He's 5'6".. He made an over the should stab in center field that was just amazing in an earlier game. I said this back when I was coaching Legion ball... I'd invite any of you to see the tournament play we had to go thru in order to get to these national levels.. remember, Torrance, CA beat that Chula Vista team 17-0 back in area play... There's some really good teams out there. Where you lose these kids is that: 1. Some are as tall at 12, as they will be for the rest of their life. My Dad was one of those guys who was like a 5'11" 12 year old. (I was a smurf). My brother was almost 6' at 12.. Most of them don't get better. 2. Baseball past LL requires you to make grades. A lot of these youth ball heroes think there are big league inroads that don't require going to school. Unless they plan on moving to the Dominican Republic, that ain't going to happen. When at Ontario HS, I spent a solid 4 years trying to get 3 kids eligible. Only one of them ever made it.. his senior season.. he was drafted by the LA Dodgers. 3. Ego. Some of these kids just think they are so great, they don't have to work hard to get better. They don't realize that they are literally at the very beginning. Well done by the Chulajuana kids today. I hope they keep after it. btw-George, I agree with you about hating it.
