My 17 year old (middle son) has been involved in music since he was 5 years old in one way or the other. He is a great accoustic guitar player and an excellent vocalist (his strength). For the last 2 years he has been the lead vocalist/keyboardist in a band here in Detroit called LLE. They have a CD out and I find out tonight they are booked at St. Andrews Hall for next June in Detroit which is a pretty damned good venue for a young band. In years past bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers have played in this Detroit music venue so this is a pretty good step up for these guys. Check out some live music of theirs on LLEJams.Com...click on multimedia...and listen to their originals North Country and especially Broken Couch. Let me know what you think.
I do not consider myself to be an American Idol judge. However, they do sound pretty good. Being a 60's and 70's rock fan, "Don't let me down" was the only thing I listened to.
Mo, Great music! Your boy is very talented. Congrats, you ought to be very proud of him. I'm not sure who he reminds me of , in one of the songs he sounded like Stevie Winwood and Traffic, in another he sounded a little like Michael Mc Donald. Good luck to him and his band.
Congrats, I hope the guys make it big!! Maybe you can get us all backstage when they are famous! Those of us who are single skyboxers can keep the groupies at bay! Terry
Terry wrote: Those BRAVE Married SkyBoxers can as well... No honey, I don't include myself in that group. No! Really! I don't! :? Help me out here guys!!! :!:
MCG, great stuff...best of luck to your boy! I'm sure he's having the time of his life and hopefully the best is yet to come! Terry
Hey guys...thanks for checking out my son's music and I'm glad you like it. The other band members are all in their early 20s but two of them who had a band when they were seniors met my son as a freshman in highschool and they immediately realized his talent and he became their lead singer. My son has attended summer sessions at Interlochen School for Arts a few years back and he has been actively involved in school music projects over the years including playing the role of Conrad Birdie in the school musical Bye Bye Birdie this year. I never mentioned it to Gonzo but the U of M in Coral Gables has one of the best vocal jazz music programs in the country and in Nov. my son auditioned there for the vocal music director and the guy placed my son right then and there as one of the leading candidates for a full ride scholarship. The only problem is that unlike Larry Coker he had nothing to do with admissions and my son's 24 on the ACT and low 2s GPA may have been great if he was a Qb but not so great as a singer. Anyway, thanks again for the compliments. .
Tom, let me say that I REALLY don't mind going to see the shows in some of the Detroit area clubs that the band has played in. It's always fun when the cuties come up and find out my son's the lead singer but hey, having him there also keeps me in line as you might guess.  Tom if you like 60s and 70s music you will enjoy all of their selections. They're mostly inspired by groups like the Allmann Brothers, Beatles, Grateful Dead, etc. Night By Night is an old Steely Dan song and they nail it pretty good.
re: cuties Get used to it MCG. I have a brother who's 10 years younger than me and he's been in a great local club band for over 30 years. Like your son, he's the lead singer. I've always had people, especially good looking women, asking me with incredulous looks on their faces, "YOU are Mike O'Connor's brother?" OK, I get it. Mike is so talented, good looking and wonderful, while I'm the troll who lives under the bridge... Your son and his pals really have a clue. It looks like they've broken out of the garage band phase and are looking for bigger deals. This is the way its done, as far as I understand that business. They're combining lots of new art, music and lyrics, while keeping the whole thing familiar; which I also like. At this rate, they may just go a long way. Congrats! ...............JO'Co
MCG, I listened to some more of the selections. I agree that his band has a bright future. Just make sure that Keith Richards is not a role model for any of them.
Thanks Jo'Co. The trick is to keep these guys together when my son goes off to school. I'm not sure yet how that may pan out or where he may yet go. In any event the next 6 months should be a lot of fun. They are playing in a bar/restaurant called Fishbones in Saint Clair Shores, Mi. on St. Patty's Day which this year is thankfully on a Fri. night as you well know. That should be a riot.
MCG: Listened to three of their selections; they sound really good. I like their style and am a big fan of the groups they pattern themselves after. Here's a story for you... a neighbor kid has put togther a band and they play the local watering holes and such like your son's band. They entered a contest on WPLJ FM in New York City where they submitted sample tracks like your son's for evaluation. Five bands were chosen as finalists and their songs were placed on the radio station's web site for public voting. Well, they were chosen #1 and last week were the opening act at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for Bob Jovi. Here is a photo from the event: I guess the moral of the story is you can't catch fish without bait. If they keep plugging away they'll reach their dream. Good luck!
Great story George and thanks. I know that's how it has to happen so somehow they have to find the opening. That radio station idea is a good one. Maybe I'll send out a mass e-mail with website info although these are live tracks on the site from a bar and not studio quality but still pretty good.
Is he related to Bob Dylan?......or Bon Jovi?.......   I'm so funny, I make myself cry.
