My day is not a total loss. USC tried to pull it off but my second favorite team (whoever is playing USC) just closed the coffin on Kitten. Sign in the stands: "Luck had nothing to do with it". Without Andrew Luck, Stanford was to have no chance against USC. The mighty Lame Kitten has struck out.
I was going to post this but glad you beat me to it. Couldn't happen to a more deserving person, even if it hurt my picks.
Very surprised by this, as Stanford hadn't really looked all that good and hadn't exactly played a tough schedule up till this game.
Yes...I figured you lads would be all broken up about the demise of Troy. I've watched the replay of Little Kiffin sniveling on Sports Center five times now. File this one under "What goes around, comes around." Before the game, Barkley was hailed as the hero who turned down millions of NFL dollars, only to lose to one of my granddaughter's friends from Upland High School. Tsk...tsk. We were also told (Just before the game!) that USC didn't have college receivers...they had two "NFL receivers" ......Woods and Lee......who were not coverable by mere college Dbacks. I've watched the ending of that game five times now too and they look covered to me... Heh...heh...still on the agenda: Oregon, ASU, Cal, Notre Dame, and road games at Arizona and UCLA. As Patton said, "God help me. but I do love it so."
     I wonder if he went on LA TV beforehand saying they were gonna be up in the stands after the game singin Fight ON or whatever those Trogs sing "all night long".... tee hee hee.... Like I have said before.....the nab has zero championship rings on his finger....and now he may not get one this year either.
How many does Will Muschamp have? None of that assistant coach stuff, because Lane's got 2 of them at USC by that standard. There's no one who is happier about USC losing than I, but I don't see the need to get all bat **** crazy over it. It's not like they are going to run out of talent in Southern California. There's a LOT of football to be played and I'm not writing anyone off yet. (although the tears and heartbreak are admittedly sweet to watch). You guys seem to not remember the changed landscape. USC could lose this and work their way back into the title game.. You know, the whole super conference format, mega-hype title game etc. I'm not counting out the vampires until the sun comes up and the bodies rot away.
Yeah but no one including Gator fans has been drumming it in our ears how great and awesome a coach Will is vs. I have been hearing this type of unearned crap about Kiffie ever since he was hired at Tenn.
who the hell is saying this Dave? The guy is a prick, I don't think anyone would dare say to the contrary, not even his old man. The thing is that people insist he's a BAD coach, all evidence points to the contrary. He's not a legendary coach. In fact, I hate to break this to you but I've heard way more hype about your boy Muschamp than I ever heard about Kiffin. People hate Kiffin. No one sees him as the savior except those evil enough to take him back under their wings. I damned near started a riot yesterday because I said that I could see why Kiffin left Tennessee for USC, it's a better job. You tell SEC or MOST Tennessee fans that, they'd lose their minds. The truth is, had he left to take the Florida job, I'd be saying the same exact things about Kiffin now. ****, it would be easier to do that. Having to defend anything USC just honestly pisses me off. However, to fly along with the ******** I've seen out there is disingenuous at best.... And again, Kifin is THIRTY SEVEN YEARS OLD.. 4 years younger than even your young head coach..
I honestly have not seen those things said about Will. Just that he was head coach in waiting at Texas and maybe they knew what they were doing.... maybe not....who knows? I still see WM growing in to this job and everyone seems to recognize that. With Kiffie it seems like many including most especially the media have been gushing about his HC capabilities when in reality he has never really won anything other than some recruiting wars and even that at a place like USC is a no brainer.
You just have some funky ass Gator glasses on.. but honestly, I don't want to jade the rest of the Gator fans with that. Kiffin was run out of the NFL by Al Davis. I'm not even sure there's a good guy involved in that story. He was considered a 'boy wonder' only in the very first weeks of that deal, which went south in a hurry. Depending on who you believe in that scenario, it was pretty messed up. The thing is, no one there is believable. I wish they would have stayed together. He got the UT job basically because no one worth a **** wanted it and UT was a flat out empty cupboard. I can't think of even the most passionate UT fans who would tell you any different about that team. Lane could promise his Daddy, a recruiting and hype machine and positive energy. Those were all things that Tennessee so badly needed. Tennessee fans hate him because he lied, but they've backed liars before. Hell, they supported that back stabbing POS Phil Fulmer for a great many years. Why do they rage against Lane? Because they saw the hope. They saw the passion his teams played with. You can say what you want, but his team at Tennessee that was almost void of any talent played with heart... LOTS of it. That was something missing from Fulmer's teams for many years. Honestly, it's still the biggest question I have about Dooley and it's still not answered. With a far less talented team than anything Dooley has ever had, Kiffin had a winning record in his only year in the SEC. He came within a blocked FG of beating eventual NC Alabama that year. They lost close to UCLA and battled Florida tough. They lost close to Auburn. They had way more heart than talent, and that's what has to burn UT fans even if they won't admit it. They saw the potential. They believed him, and he lied like the dirty, cheating whore he is.. That stings, Dave. How many winning seasons has Dooley had? Muschamp has always been a 'golden boy prodigy' and has been for years and years now. Kiffin's never been that. He bolted under the cover of dark outta Knoxville and into the dark underbelly of South Central LA. USC fans are stinging right now, because they too see it. You talk a mean game about being this objective thinker, but I've never really seen it. Kiffin's strategy (especially recruiting) was just brilliant. We'll see how this all works out but USC fans saw that same promise and right now they're stinging.. real bad. I'm enjoying it myself. Just don't rule it out. Let me toss this out at you.. if USC runs the table, beats an unbeaten UCLA and then an unbeaten Stanford who beats Oregon to win the North in a title game rematch in the Pac12 (you do realize that could happen, right?).. The loser of the Alabama/LSU game won't stand a chance at getting a rematch in the media war... and right now, I don't see anything in the East that can compete with either Alabama or LSU right now.. although LSU would be more likely to choke one away.
After the stinker LSU put up against Bama in NOLA the SEC does not deserve another shot at two teams in a rematch so do not expect that to have a chance of happening this year. If USC runs the table then I do think they have a great shot of making the title game....unless FSU slips in there unbeaten.
Corey, I don't know where you heard all this hype about Muschamp. I personally do, and have had faith, in him. However a lot of Gator fans have been all over him last year and the first game this year. Now the bandwagon fans are coming around and the really negative ones have gone in hiding. If we lost to LSU they will be back. Whatever you say about Kiffin is no doubt true. However I still don't like him and get some satisfaction when he loses. Hopefully UCLA finds their way back to being competitive also.
Oh and just to further prove what a class act he is Kiffen threw his Heisman Trophy Candidate QB who turned down millions to come back for a final year under the bus. Under the Bus he goes
I love it. To me, the way Kiffin called out his QB and his OL in that press conference indicates the beginning of the end of any team chemistry that might have existed prior to the Stanford game. Keep up the good work, coach. Re: Barkley. If he came back because he loves being in college and playing college football (like Manti Te'o), then he'll recover emotionally and continue to play as a legitimate Heisman candidate. If he came back solely to win a conference and/or a national championship, or to avoid coming out in the same year as Luck and RGIII, he could be in for a long season. He can still salvage a conference championship, maybe even a national championship, but he'll have to suck it up. Obviously, he cannot count on his coach for support, having been thrown under the bus after the third game of the season.
8) re: 12Pac championship Right now, USC is in dead, last, place in the 12Pac South...looking up at Colorado.
Bill, Muschamp has long been considered a 'golden child' prodigy type of coach. When I moved to the South, it was Muschamp's LSU defense that everyone was talking about. In not so whispered tones, people would say 'there's your next great HC.' Then he bolted for the NFL, but came back to be the DC at Auburn. At Auburn, he was absolutely loved. They produced and had some of their greatest defenses in the past few decades under him. Again, there was always the whisper that he was a golden child on the fast ticket for an HC spot... Smartly, he got the hell out of Auburn before Tubbs could throw him under the bus like he did every other competent assistant coach. Then Muschamp went to Texas which, excuse me if I am wrong, they basically named Muschamp the next head coach at Texas. One of those bullpucky 'Coach in Waiting' things. They don't just do that for everyone. He was the highest paid assistant in the SEC before bolting and becoming the highest paid assistant in the Big12. People have had nothing but respect and reverence for the guy (although I think Doc said there was some crankiness in his last year at Texas).. Doc could speak with more definition than I on that subject... As for UCLA being back, we might not be all that far out of the woods at the moment. We'll see how that shakes out.
Just heard Lou Holtz on ESPN comment on USC's chances of winning the national championship. In his opinion, it won't happen for two primary reasons: 1) lack of depth in the aftermath of the NCAA sanctions (e.g., freshman center backing up the injured senior), and 2) they would have to beat Oregon twice, once in the scheduled game and again in the Pac12 championship game. Dr. Lou does not believe it will happen.
