Rumours are rampant around here that Andy Petite is considering returning to New Yawk next year to finish his career. He's tired of losing games 1-0. or having the bullpen blow the lead. :(.

    JIF,

Drew will spend two of his five years on the DL. Lugo is a nice pickup. What I want to see is you guys trading Manny. Without him backing up Big Papi we can pitch around him 8)

Lugo is good. Of course, the Sox could have just held on to Hanley Ramirez.

Don't like the Drew signing. I've heard Tito talk about how they're going to bat Papi, Manny and Drew 3,4,5 so I'm wondering if the Sox are asking so much for Manny that he ends up staying? Dunno how that would work out. Instead of fighting for playing time we might see Manny and Drew fighting for days off. :?

Sorry..Lugo is a journeyman JUNKMAN who will be with 10 teams by the time he is done. Sox dont need a wife beater besides. Bad move. Its the same old story.. Fenway is already sold out for the season..management can just kick back and count their money.

How much did Drew sign for? Did he take a big cut in pay ?

Just wondering if his LA deal backfired.

Just the opposite, AJ. 5 years, $70 million. He walked away from 3 years, $39 million.

I may be totally wrong, but I think the Red Sox have ruined their team. We were glad to get JD Drew out of town. He was our least productive, most overpaid, gutless, player since Eddie Murray or Daryl Strawberry. He's a loafer and a loser who often takes himself out of the lineup in big games or when the other team is pitching their ace. He's worthless.

Lugo is a good, but not great player. He's a bit of a malcontent, who likes to have everything handed to him, but he's above average on defense. The Dodgers had a hard time finding a place for him to play down the stretch. He's a winner, but he's not an impact player. I think the Sox could have signed a better SS for less money...

Some ugly Manny-to-Los Angeles rumors cropping up here. Please don't dump him on us. The Dodger way to play baseball is all about hustle and guys like Murray, Strawberry, Pedro Guerrero, Ritchie Allen and JD Drew have been booed out of town here. The foul pole gangbangers would kill Manny if he ever loafed after a double down the line at Chavez Ravine. "Manny being Manny" won't fly here, because LA is LA...

Did I hear that Jason Schmidt might sign with the Dodgers? I was half listening to ESPN on the way home last night and thought I heard that.

Schmidt deal is done. Only cost $47,000,000 for a pitcher who in most eras would be unknown.

This is crazy stuff going on now. Imagine being Barry Zito... slightly above average pitcher who will almost certainly command a contract in excess of $100,000,000.

I wish the Dodgers all the luck in thw world in acquiring Manny. Get him out of the AL East! Hit .575 against the Yankees last year.

Petite will play for a bargin basement of 12-13 million...for a guy who was 14-13, a 4.20 ERA, the backside of 30, and elbow troubles.

Pettite going back to the Yankees is very funny. A guy whom the Yankees told we don't want you and who also wanted to be home now will go back to the Bronx??? Give me a break

Sox want every young stud pony we have for Manny, including Matt Kemp and James Loney. God, I hope the Dodgers don't fall for it. I don't want Manny at any price...

    re: Jason Schmidt

Schmidt is probably the best pitcher in the National League since Schilling and the Big Unit left for the AL East. If he'd been pitching for the Dodgers last season he would have won 20 easily. He throws in the high 90's with a good curve and a hard slider. He's a winner and he knows how to pitch.

In Frisco, the lousy bullpen would blow lead after lead that he left for them. In LA, he'll have one of the best bullpens in back of him and one of the highest scoring offenses to give him leads. He was my own personal first choice of all the free agent pitchers out there. He's a good one...

The current Dodger starting pitching staff looks good on paper:
    Ace: Jason Schmidt
    #2: Derek Lowe
    #3: Brad Penny
    #4: Randy Wolf
    #5 Chad Billingsley

That paper plan doesn't include some prime-time starters down at AAA Vegas who may be ready right now, like Joel Hanrahan...

Coletti hasn't made many mistakes in his first year as GM. I hope this trend continues. So far, so good...

    ............DD

IMO the signing of Luis Gonzalez was an excellent move. He's at the end of his career, but he can flat out hit, and he's a winner. Plus his leadership in the clubhouse for your young studs will be immeasurable.

Looks like I'm going to have to give NDFan77 a break... Petite is back in pinstripes for 16 million. I'll predict 2 trips to the DL for elbow concerns.

Also I'll bet that you'll have Roger in the rotation after July 1. Those two guys are apparently joined at the hip. You don't think they are gay do you? :)
