What is going on in New York? The Knicks just hired Larry Brown, then guaranteed him $50 million, then fired him after one year. The GM who didn't support him has named himself as head coach. He'd better. The Knicks can no longer afford to hire a coach from the outside. BTW- how did they ever figure that ANY coach was worth $10 million per year?

Rumors have the New Jersey Nets moving to Brooklyn...

Thomas is considered a players coach which, translated, means the players will run roughshod over him.

They hired Brown to do a job but Thomas gave him nothing to work with. Just a bunch of half-assed talent signed to incredibly large, long term contracts that make them impossible to trade.

The real new coach is Stephon Marbury. who will bitch slap Thomas the first day of practice.

Brown wasn't fired... he was paroled.

Nets are moving to Brooklyn... new owners include the rapper Jay Z... whoever the hell that is. That muffled noise you hear coming from New Jersey is a collective yawn...

George, I'm not an Isaiah Thomas fan, especially after he ran the CBA (including a Ft. Wayne franchise) into bankruptcy. But I've seen enough of him here in the midwest at IU, as the great Pistons guard, and as the coach of the Pacers to know that nobody......I mean NOBODY......will bitch slap him, especially a me-first guy like Marbury. If he's nothing else, Thomas is tough and he's a scrapper. How this translates to coaching an NBA team full of whiners I have no idea.

    Sid,

Thomas has no choice but to kiss everybody's butt. In the time he has served as Knicks G.M., he has signed the largest collection of whiners, under achievers, individualists and fat slobs ever assembled in one arena. Not only that but he signed them all for enormous long term salaries that guarantee that they can never be traded because no one else in the NBA is as stupid as Isiah.

He is the worst G.M. in organized professional sports and the Dolans( the owners who hired him ) are idiots.

It's poetic justice that Thomas must now coach this team of half-witted slugs since he was the "brains" that signed them to begin with.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I respectfully disagree.

George, Actually, I defer to your assessment of him as a GM because you have witnessed the situation firsthand. Remember, I said I'm not a fan of his. The only thing you said that I took issue with was the "bitch slap" comment, which I don't associate with him from his playing days. Looks like I might be comparing apples (player) to oranges (GM/coach). In any event, it is obvious that he is a big part of the problem with that organization, and unless he can coach the current players to a respectable level of success, the Knicks IMO are going to be at the bottom of the NBA barrel for a long time to come.

Let me add how sorry we are in Detroit that Larry Brown didn't get to stay with his latest "last place I'll ever coach" job. He's a piece of work.
