If i were AD I would have made Kelly walk back to South Bend after that travesty yesterday. What a perfect synopsis of a nightmare season. An undisciplined team basically mailing in a half-assed effort punctuated by a lifeless, increasingly overweight QB, some extremely unsportsmanlike conduct and some halftime coaching theatrics that clearly fell on deaf ears. Go, please.
A while ago, George said our O-line is overrated. I quietly agreed with him then, and I vocally agree with him now that this debacle of a season has ended. If we don't find some leadership before next season, I fear it will be more of the same. The only light yesterday in the dark tunnel of defeat was Josh Adams. A workhorse. He's the only player whose uniform was dirty at the end of the game. #99's antics were embarrassing. He needs to have the fear of God drilled into him. In the scheme of things, this nit is meaningless, but I have to ask. Did anyone notice that our free kick team following the safety was full of lumbering bubbas? Where was the special teams kickoff team? Did they put the punt team on the field with 5-6 O-linemen? It was a kickoff, stupid. No wonder that sideline entertainer ran it back for a TD. Ugh!
ND <t>What a mess. Terrible season and with all the crap going on we can't even put it to rest.😖</t>
Sid is right about Josh Adams. He played hard and well. In the right offense there would be no stopping him.
hahahaha As for Kelly..... this team showed a real lack of leadership and heart, now, is that indicative that the Chief is half out the door? I don't know. All I know is that I better not see that **** next year.
Terry, I would think that as far as Swarbrick and Kelly are concerned, there's nothing more to say than what's already been said. The outside noise certainly will persist, as it should, because of the results of this season both on and off the field. Fan frustration with no answers is a heavy load to carry through the off-season, but that's where we are for the next several months. Of course, if I've learned anything in my years on this earth, it's that nothing ever is set in stone. Corey, I agree 100% with you regarding the lack of leadership and heart in this year's team.
I'll post these statistics in this topic. They indicate where ND stands at season's end among the 128 FBS teams. OFFENSE DEFENSE
LB recruit Pete Werner backs out of his verbal committment. That makes two highly regarded defensive players that have decommitted. Is Kelly STILL the coach? We are paying a heavy toll.
Yeah while I don't expect all the recruits to bail, this stuff happens and even if Kelly wasn't under fire from all sides just the 4-8 season would cause some recruits to waver and move on to somebody who they think will be good while they are students. Warner is likely to go to UM or Ohio State two programs who have arrows pointing upwards.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Vorel @mikevorel I've gotten so many tweets about Charlie Strong for ND DC. He's been a HC for last 7 seasons. Would be surprised if he settled for less. I get why folks want Brian Kelly fired. But if you think firing him will help '17 recruiting class, it's more likely to do the opposite Decommit count under Brian Kelly: 3 in 2010, 4 in 2011, 4 in 2012, 3 in 2013, 3 in 2014, 2 in 2015, 0 in 2016, 3 in 2017. UCLA (4-8) 10 commits TCU (6-5) 9 commits Ole Miss (5-7) 10 commits ND (4-8) 17 commits Since August #NotreDame's 2017 class has now lost more commitments (Werner and Jeter) than it's gained (Hicks): Losing Werner drops Notre Dame from 6th in the team rankings to 10th.
That Werner kid was in Columbus for the Ohio State Michigan game. I'm betting that the Catholic school kid from Indiana is headed to Ohio State. We should never lose a Catholic school kid from Indiana.
I didn't follow Werner or his school, Cathedral, but they didn't make any noise around here. I wonder how much of a loss it is.
Kelly not out but Malik Zaire is done , got his release and will graduate in December. Supposedly looking at Pitt, UH, Mich State and Wisconsin. Good luck to him.
