One of the best Championship games in a long time. Can't believe that Memphis couldn't hit their free throws in the clutch. On a side note, there are rumours that Boone Pickens has offered Bill Self a 6 million dollar signing bonus and a 4 million/year contract to come to Oklahoma State. Plus an open checkbook with regards to recruiting budget and any capital improvements that he needs/wants. Just a rumour.
Tigers not hitting their free throws, the steal and three toward the end of regulation, and Chalmers' huge three to tie the game. Dorsey had fouled out, the momentum was with the Jayhawks, and now Memphis and its fans will be left to forever ponder what might have been. Tough game. Great drama.
That steal of the inbounds pass was huge. Memphis just folded under the pressure. But they aren't the first team to do that. Think about the Chris Webber mistake and I'm sure there are others. Arizona won their title in an OT game, but I forget the circumstances.
From a spectators standpoint that was a great game to watch. Here was Houston and NC State, Houston was Phi Slamma Jamma but couldn't hit their free throws down the stretch. That's when NC State hit the shot at the buzzer to win, and you still see pictures of Valvano running on the court after the game.
Arizona led by one at the half. Kentucky tied the game at the end to force overtime. Arizona scored all of their OT points from the free throw line; not sure about Kentucky.
I'm a little late on this but the KU, Memphis matchup turned out to be a great game. Thanks for the link on the Rock Chalk cheer. That was pretty neat.
