I am not going to post about how UF is the dominant team in the nation or that UF deserves the #2 spot opposite the OSU-UM winner because there is so much more football to be played. Other teams have tough games and so does Florida so who knows in the next three weeks which team will separate from the pack and earn that spot. In the interim this article says a lot about the state of Florida football and I for one am very happy with the fact that the Gators did what was necessary to get back to the SECCG. They have proved over the last 5 years that getting to Atlanta is never to be taken for granted. Thanks Coach Meyer for gettin 'er done.! http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/gators/orl-bianchi0506nov05,0,953471.column?coll=orl-sports-headlines-gators
Last week <t>the Robot Genius was called a whiner for saying that its all about 'just winning' rather than style points.<br/> <br/> one week later and all of the 'style council' takes a turd on the national stage, and somehow 'just win' is back en vogue.<br/> <br/> what a load of crap.<br/> <br/> Go Hogs.</t>
I don't see too many teams able to get "style" points these days. Look at that 2002 NC from Columbus as an example. SC and Texas last year may have been exceptions though.
oh no <t>maybe it takes seeing this from an ND fan's perspective, but all we've been hearing since we lost to Michigan was 'style points.'<br/> <br/> We aren't winning big enough, fast enough or with enough style. Hell, if we play on ABC the Trazadone Trio of Saunders, James and Flutie have slammed ND at HALFTIME for not having a massive lead over an inferior opponent.<br/> <br/> Nope. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. The ESPN/ABC/CBS type folks who cover the sport have been demanding style points...<br/> <br/> until their teams can't provide them.. then its all about winning?? bullcrap.</t>
Interesting that over the weekend I noticed some network trends that smack of internal network maneuvering and marketing. Strangely on ESPN Kirk Hrebstreit who erstwhile has been a Florida supporter and Mark May who never has supported Fla tended to downplay the one-loss SEC possibility in the BCSCG and instead supported Louisville loudly whereas over on Fox when they announced the BCS standings they showed the Gators lots of love. I think ESPN is subtly directing their hype on purpose in order to promote their upcoming night games that involve Louisville. When the Louisville games have passed I fully expect the ESPN/ABC train to jump on the Texas bandwagon ( Big 12 CG - ABC) I also think Fox has the BCS series for the first time this year and they paid a lot of money for it and they don't want the poorer ratings that Louisville-OSU would bring over Florida-OSU. Just my opinion.
I have watched Louisville play, and I find myself doing something that I am loathe to do, which is to "bad mouth" a team that is having a great season...but I don't think they could touch Fla., Texas, or Cal.
Stu, that was a pretty good West Virginia team they beat without one of, if not the, best player on the squad....Bush. They also have some decent out of conference victories...KState and they absolutely sh!thammered Kentucky, something several SEC teams have not accomplished...not elite wins but they ain't 1AA either. How soon people forget that WVA won the Sugar Bowl last year and this was a better squad. The notion that a 1 loss team should sneak in ahead of L'ville is patently absurd and ain't gonna happen, imo.
I quite agree that if undefeated they have earned and deserve the slot...but I still think they get pasted...I saw that game against WV...was not that impressed...and it's rare for me to say that sort of thing...they'll probably end up national champs just to prove me the chump. I watched Rutgers when they were "proven to be now a big-time program" 'cause they beat Pitt...one week before South Florida beat Pitt. Now when Louisville beats Rutgers, I'm sorta thinking "so?" I 'm not a believer in "style point" wins, but I'm not ready to buy in yet.
Ivan Maisel says it's Texas vs Ohio State in a rematch!! And he says it's ND vs Boise State!! Terry BCS Projections
I have long had a problem with teams that can go unbeaten easier because they were in an easy conference getting easier rides into the BCS Championship game and that included FSU and Miami before they finally are both in a real conference. I'm going to admit that Louisville is a pretty good team, but I am not ready to admit that because they are unbeaten in an easy conference, although not as easy as it once was, that they deserve a position in the BCS Championship. I think a once beaten OSU or Michigan, Florida, Texas, Notre Dame, Auburn (if they would make it to the SEC Championship game), S. Cal, and perhaps California or Arkansas could all be more deserving than an unbeaten team from the Big East. All the more reason that a playoff is the only legitimate way to run the Championship. Just my humble opinion.
I think Rutgers takes care of this little problem on Thursday night. Of course that opens another potential can of worms... If Louisville runs the table and plays the Buckeyes for the NC they better add a third column to the OSU side of the scoreboard
guys <t>I am normally all on board with the Big East sucks statement. What keeps me wondering is the FACT that the Big East champ last year (West Virginia) scoring at will against SEC Champ Georgia in the Sugar Bowl last year.<br/> <br/> Both West Virginia and the Lou are better this year than they were last year. Toss in a defensive minded Rutgers in the mix and things get interesting over there. I'm not saying the Big East is the SEC but I'm not so sure that their best can't play with the top teams in other conferences.</t>
I too have been impressed with WVa and it started with the Sugar Bowl shocker over the Dawgs. That game though seems to have sent Ga on a downward spiral they haven't rebounded from yet. Either these teams have the best offenses in the country bar none or they play defense no better than the wild days of the high scoring WAC.
