I had already been sold that this was a great hire. But he confirmed it for me tonight. Non stop energy, says all the right things. One question was about his actions on the sideline. One thing he said while answering the question is that I have to be who I am, not make myself into someone else, I have to be me. I love not only the answer but how he gave it. I think the Gators are in for a great ride.
They don't call him "Boom" for nothing. He will be animated as all get out on the sidelines. As with all first time HC the key for him will be to surround himself with an excellent staff. IMHO its one of the key factors in failures of first time HC's.
Muschamp also talked about how as boy he walked to photo day at Florida Field and had his pic taken with a sophomore LB....named Wilbur Marshall.....because Chris Collinsworth wasn't available. This kind of story inspires you to say...welcome home son!
Yes....his high school after his stay in Gainesville was in Georgia and he opted to go where his H/S buddies were going. Easily understood.
Terry, he tried to walk on at Florida but wasn't allowed. That is my understanding. Also he was living in Georgia at the time and it was by far cheaper. His home in Gainesville where he lived through Middle School was about 2 blocks from the Swamp and he grew up a Gator fan. Either way I am very happy with him as our coach.
Me too.......because staying competitive in the SEC requires top notch recruiting efforts and I think he will provide that effort along with skill. We can only hope his in-game decision making and game planning abilities are more than adequate. We were seriously lacking in both of those areas this season....with the possible exception of the Georgia game and Kentucky as well. UF should have beaten LSU but the defensive strategy/execution at the end killed us so that can't be counted as well coached in my opinion..
Given returning talent, new offense, new coaching staff, etc ...what are the expectations of the Gator Nation for next year?
Terry, my expectations is that we have a winning season, compete for the SEC East which means I believe we can do well. However the schedule is brutal. The month of October we have 4 games, Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia. LSU and Auburn are road games. Other significant games are Tennessee, South Carolina and FSU. But I predict a winning season and we compete for the SEC East. I think most Gator fans agree with the above assessment.
Not really a brutal schedule Bill because we don't change time zones very much....which after all is THE criteria for judging a schedule's toughness....or so I understand. With that in mind it looks like a cakewalk....right? How about 11-1.....
