"Frightened" cannot begin to describe what the guys in those boats must have felt. Watching all that defensive fire, and still jumping into it... I could never say enough about the Greatest Generation...
Extensive article from the Daily Mail of the UK re the 70th Anniversary Ceremony honoring those who fought on D Day. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2650699/They-paid-price-They-heroes-D-Day-veterans-honour-men-saw-die-beaches-Normandy.html
I agree with all of the above. That kind of selfless bravery is hard to duplicate. That generation handed us a Cadillac and we turned it into a Toyota.
There are a few places on this earth that move you to a great degree. The cemetery at Normandy is one and the USS Arizona memorial in Hawaii is another. If you ever get the chance to visit make the time. It's well worth it.
I agree with all the above and just can't comprehend what those kids were thinking when the landed at Normandy. I recorded and watched a History Channel program called WWII from space. It was pretty good except the weather was bad during the recording of it, but very interesting none the less. Thanks guys for posting this.
