I see that in an article on Nick Montana who plays QB at the same HS in the LA area that produced Jimmy Clausen, is tripping to Ohio State who is recruiting him very hard. Tressel has supposedly told him he is their top target at QB and that if he comes he'll be the only QB in his class. He's also got a fairly long list of offers from schools such as LSU, Maryland, South Carolina, Stanford, Arizona are all recruting him. Ohio State and Az are recruiting him the hardest. Oddly enough he says he hasn't had much interest other than some letters from Notre Dame. I don't have an article I can link, I read this on Irish Eyes but it was a pay article. If he's really good, it'll be hard to see Joe Montana's son in anything but Our Lady's Gold and Blue.
That is interesting. I figured Charlie would have had Polian all over this one already. Then again, Polian has been flying out to Hawaii every week so maybe it has been a matter of limited resources up to this point. We have Clausen for this year and next. Behind him, we have Crist who has 4 years of eligibility. I would really like to see another 4/5 star guy in this class. In fact, I'd be shocked if Charlie doesn't land one.
Right now Charlie supposedly likes the Heaps kid from Washington and the Gardner kid from Mich. Those are his only 2 offers out there. Supposedly young Montana had a very good year at Oaks Christian, not eye popping stats since he didn't play much in the 2nd half of games due to the score. The Heaps kid is another Mormon, like Te'o, so that could be an issue. But with UW having Sark the Shark there as the head coach I would think he'd be tough to talk out of UW. The Locker kid will be Sr when he's a freshman and they don't have any other top QBs in waiting on the roster so that's another factor. I've also read that while the kid is a great HS Qb that his arm isn't all that great, but he is a 5*. I don't know much about the Gardner kid, some say he's already better than the Lions QB's!! But with Crist going to be a Jr when he arrives on Campus, 2 years of eligibility left, it seems like we should be looking for a pretty top qb in this class.
If he's a highly rated QB, Tennessee is going to be hard on his tail as the Vols have failed to sign a signal caller in the last two classes now. Here's a piece from the Knoxville News on Montana's visit to Knoxville. http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2009/feb/06/hooker-montanas-son-takes-look-ut/
There could be several reasons why he is not looking at ND or vice versa. Maybe the family doesn't want competition between the brothers, who would be two years apart. Maybe Joe has advised him to go where the opportunity is better than he perceives it to be at ND. Who knows? I'm guessing that there has been communication between CW and the family regardless of whether or not there is an offer on the horizon.
Wow, no QB's in the last 2 classes? Are you looking at any JUCO's? I see Jake Heaps is comming in, I'll be curious how some of the Vols who look at film rate Heaps. Some of the guys who I know who look at a lot of film don't think Heaps will be as good in college as he has been in HS. Terry
Montana <r>I don't really have much to say on the subject for now but I wanted to let Corey know I love the Avatar!!!LOL!!! <E></E></r>
Nick Montana got an offical offer from Notre Dame supposedly. He has a very impressive list of offers. Ohio State, LSU, Nebraska, So. Carolina, FSU, and Alabama, Stanford. More than a little suprising that Stanford is the only West Coast school though that has offered him so far. Supposedly Devin Gardner, a highly rated QB from Mich had Ohio State as his #1 choice, but when he heard that Ohio State told Nick he was the only QB they would recruit till he either commited to them or somewhere else, so he's no longer considering Ohio State. Gardner does have a ND offer.
Oh, he'll go to Nebraska. His Daddy was more than impressed with the Univ after watching Craig and Rathman win SB's all by themselves.
I thought Blake Bell was the object of Neb affections right now. :?: Of course you may have to battle ND for him as well! Oh yeah and no fair sending him a Gator Bowl DVD!
....can you say hearsay, scuttlebutt, sheer speculation and nonsensical blather and many, many other crazy things that are all the rage amongst college football recruitniks......nobody knows nuttin'. It's crazy.....yet, as is unfortunately the case, there are some kids who will make decisions on the basis of anything but cold, hard facts. Hopefully, he will get the truth from Coach Tressell and I'm comfortable and frankly quite confident that Coach T will be straight up with him and give the young man an opportunity to then make an informed decision.....I can't imagine being a young stud and having to deal with all the nonsense and crapola they will hear.....integrity is at a premium here and I like our chances in that regard. I could be wrong but I don't think so....
