I am by no means a New York sports fan. However, I do maintain a soft spot for the New York Football Giants ( as they were called in the 50s). Before the American Football League started in 1960., The Giants were the team of choice in New England. Having said that..I now say GO BIG BLUE...BEAT THE CHEESEHEADS! see you in Arizona!!!
I think the Giants have a good chance at the SB now. I know one thing, "ol Brett better be light on his feet with the pass rush he'll see this week. I don't expect Romo was much good to Jessica last night
Since the Giants are a cold weather team like the Packers I don't expect the bad weather in the game to be a factor for either team. I guess because Farve is an old geezer and Ryan Grant is a ND grad I'll root for the Packers, but I don't really care which team wins. Terry
Looking at it a different way, nice change of scenery after being on your back all day looking up a big ugly guys wearing helmets.
My dad was a Giants fan so I am rooting for the G-Men in his honor this year. I really can't lose in the NFC though because even if the Giants lose, my dad loved Brett Favre and loved it when the old guys started whoopin ass like Favre is. Ad that to the fact that Favre is my favorite individual player and the NFC is covered. The AFC may as well be represented by Satan himself considering how I feel about both the Chargers and especially the Pats. Although from what I have seen so far I wouldn't be surprised if Belichick wasn't the source of all evil and the players were his minions haha!!
Was it Sherman the Giants fans used to seranade with Goodbye Allie at the end of his stint with them? Those old Giants really had some players...Sam Huff, Y.A. Tittle and Frank Gifford. Didn't the fans make some sort of special crowd noise for Sam Huff?
good memory doc. Do you recall this from old tapes? Yes they did sing GOODBYE ALLIE! Huff NUMBER 70! He and Jim Brown had some battles at the line of scrimage! Giants played home games in Yankee stadium. Bob Shepard the stadium announcer for the Yankees ( 91 years old now and still going) also did the Giants games way back then. Not sure if he still does football or just Yankee baseball.
Hey jif, do you remember when the Cleveland Browns moved into the NFL in the 50's. The opened the season with the defending Champion Eagles and beat them handily. Then later just to prove a point in the 2nd game against the Eagles Paul Brown had his team not throw a pass and they beat the Eagles again in a very low scoring game. However if I remember right the Giants beat the Browns both regular season games and they had to have a playoff which the Browns won 8-3 in a icy, snowy game. Then they beat the Rams in the Championship game on a Groza field goal. Does my memory serve me correctly?
I got a 'blank" on some of what you said, Bill. I do remember when The Browns came into the league. I remember some real tough games between the Browns and Giants in early 50s. I recall Pat Summeral kicking a 49 yard FG which in those days was unheard of!
