Geno Smith sucker punched in the locker room by a backup LB. Out for 6-10 weeks with broken jaw. LB immediately released. Good luck in ever getting another NFL job. Hello Ryan Fitzpatrick, I like Fitz, he was a team player in his one year with the Texans. But he's really a limited guy skillwise, it's amazing that he's been able to hang on in the NFL for so long. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/13416881/geno-smith-new-york-jets-6-10-weeks-broken-jaw
This is one of those rare instances in football where you lose your starting QB and everyone knows things can only get better. I know Fitzpatrick is no Peyton , but Geno is beyond bad.
Sure, sure. I was at the Bills game last year where Geno got picked five time in a quarter and a half and was yanked before halftime. There is no coming back from that!
George, you have a lot of company. On the way home from the Y this morning, I was listening to Dan Patrick. The poll question was, Do you think the Jets are worse off or better off without Geno Smith? 72% said better off. I'm guessing a lot of respondents were Jets fans.
Ryan Fitzpatrick gets another shot at a NFL starting job...he's amazing in a lot of ways. He's got a noodle arm, and is hardly elusive but doesn't mind taking off and running if it's open. Sort of reminds me of an old left handed pitcher who has a 70mph fastball but a ton of junk pitches and seems to last till they are 50..cough John Franco. He was well liked here in Houston, but everybody wanted him on the bench not as the starter. I'm not sorry we let him go, even though Hoyer and Mallet hardly evoke the terms great or franchise.
Now that IK is back in the league, it will be interesting to see what punishment he gets from the league for deflating the Jets chances.
If the Jets can just get average NFL production from the QB position this year they will make the playoffs.
Apparently at Ford Field last night they announced that Smith wouldn't be playing because of an injury. In the back round they played "I can't feel my face."
