This is the first option to discuss for next year changes. This discussion stems from the fact that regardless of dropped week or weeks, the last week has not played into the final results in several years. This poll will run for 7 days. After it is over, we will discuss other possible changes.
End it before the 10 game weeks, or one other option might be to count each game in a 10 game week as 2 points.
Since Bill brought up one that I didn't think of, I deleted the poll. We will discuss options and then create a poll from those options. My thoughts were to end the contest on the week before the 10 game week. However, I do like Bills suggestion just as well. He suggested to multiply the 10 week score by 2. However, we are not guaranteed that it would be 10 games. So, if that becomes the option we choose, I would suggest a multiplier based upon the percentage of games available. The formula would be (20 / games in last week). So, if there were 15 games in the last week, the multiplier would be 20/15 or 1.333. If we chose this option, I think we make it apply to any week that has anything other than 20 games. If for some reason there are more than 20 games, the multiplier would be the same (20 / # of games) So, if there were 25 games, it would be 20/25 or 0.8.
I like the idea Tom. Do we set the number of games or is it automatic. I remember in the past some of the weeks varied. Regardless thanks for taking your time and effort on this.
Just a thought. ESPN has a college pick'em game that uses the same confidence points format. The differences are: 1) the ESPN game uses only ten games per week, no more, no less, and 2) the games are chosen based on how competitive, i.e., perceived even, they are. I've played it the past couple of seasons along with our format, and I think it may address some of the issues that arise in our game. In the final weekend of the season (last weekend), when there are only ten or so games being played and ESPN can't be as choosy, there won't be the same evenness of opponents as in the rest of the season. Other than that, with the same weekly maximum of 55 points per player, it's not necessary to think about how many weeks should be dropped or how the low-point weeks affect the total scores. Like I said, just a thought.
Sid, The dropped weeks came into play because of people traveling during the contest without the ability to get their picks in. We did it to allow a person to miss a week and not be out of contention. It had nothing to do with the format of the game. However, the last week being a reduced point week nullified that help.
