They are saying construction will beging at the end of this season, to be done in 3 off-season phases. I like the results, but the strain on my pocketbook will probably push me outside. As it is today from a similar angle:
That's a remodel/expansion Sid. Houston has already torn down it's stadium and will play in either Rice Stadium or Reliant Stadium till their new stadium is built. Baylor is building a new stadium on a different site than their old stadium. Stanford of course tore down it's old stadium and built a new one on the same site. The Irish were their last opponent in that old stadium, if you remember they had the wrecking crews/equipment ready to go after they cleared the stadium following that game.
Wow! ND expanded its stadium in 1997 for $50 million. The expansion increased the seating capacity from 60,000 to 80,000. What is A&M going to get for $400 million?
A stadium that has actual bathrooms and doesn't violate every law regarding handicapped access! Oh and the vistors seats will actually be able to see the field!
They had the choice of either a complete demolition and rebuild which would mean playing away for an entire season, or doing it in phases but keeping all games at home. It is actually going to cost $70 million MORE to do it over 3 years. It's more than a remodel/expansion. The old foundations are from 1929. Things have been worked around and patched as far as it can be. They must be replaced. It's time to bring the old boy up to modern standards. BUT... visitors still won't be able to see the field! ;-) Terry, In that pic you are looking at the back of the current Zone. On the opposite end is the new south endzone seating which is currently occupied by the jumbotron.
