Now the Aggies have to open the season with Florida.....while the Gators get a chance to work out some kinks vs. Bowling Green a week earlier. I hope the old saying that a team improves dramatically between the first and second game holds true in this case.....
Grrrr... The La Tech AD all but admitted it was because they hadn't sold enough tickets and not about safety... Sux that we have to open the season with a conference game against a team like UF, but at least we're at home.
Scott, My Dad is stranded in Baton Rouge while visiting family and they haven't had power there since early yesterday morning. The bridges in the area are at flood stage and the entire state of Louisiana is under a declared state of emergency with over 700,000 homes and businesses without power. If LSU had a scheduled game tonight I doubt it would take place. So....in hindsight it apppears that postponing the LaTech-TexA&M game was a prudent move. I know that the Aggies would much prefer to have gotten those first game jitters out of the way.....especially for the new Qb but hey......sometimes it's just the way it flops. I go back to 2001 when the UF-Tenn game was ppd to the end of the season due to 9-11 and then when they did play in December UF had to go without their top rusher Earnest Graham.....injured the week before vs. FSU. All Gator fans will acknowledge that was one of Spurrier's best teams.....and they didn't even play for the SEC title because of that game and ultimately because of 9-11......not to mention that UT played a great game....but still.... a 34-32 loss and UF missing Graham big time in the red zone at the end of the game. **** happens.....
In a dramatic 180 from 7 years ago post Katrina when the SuperDome was a hell hole for survivors...it will be open and hosting a game between Rutgers and Tulane.
And the 14 billion spent on the new Orleans levees was well worth it. Wonder what Democrat authorized that lavish spending? http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/promise/354/strengthen-the-levees-in-new-orleans/ Maybe Christie would say F*ck em if they can't afford it.....let em die he would snarl. Same for Mitt or especially Ryan......certainly Rick Scott wouldn't even send in the National Guard or at least he would defiantly turn down the Federal money needed to build these levees. Sure there will still be a very small in comparison price to pay in New Orleans this time around but last time 1800 lives were lost.
Back room....front room...whatever. As a human being when you all saw media coverage of those very expensive levees working for the city of New Orleans you had to be glad that at least someone thought it a worthwhile investment. If you don't feel that way then that in a nutshell exhibits the sometimes inhuman callousness of the far right.
You have no reason to post such vile crap. You are truly getting out of control. You are the one politicizing those poor folks suffering. Your hatred of conservatives is leading you to contemptible levels.
Just sayin Stu..... Obama said he would put those levees in place....he did and it cost a bundle. In this storm they probably saved hundreds of lives not to mention millions upon millions in damages to the city of New Orleans. Just because it was an Obama promise fulfilled and cost 14 billion I'll bet some out there on the right still have a problem with it. And I'm pretty close to the truth that this asshole Governor in Florida that not even the GOP likes would have turned down the Federal money to build those levees.
So last night at game time... It was 90 degrees... Cloudy. Winds of 15-20mph. Yep... definitely a need to cancel that game. I can speak to this seeing as how I attended the A&M/Va Tech game a few years ago which was played in 40mph winds with driving rains thanks to a hurricane (name escapes me) that hit the east coast. Bah!
My father is still stranded in Baton Rouge with no power. I think it's the effect the storm had on the entire region that drove the decision. Of course maybe LaTech was relatively unaffected and only draws from a local base but looking at the rest of La. who knew that area would get off lightly? If it did.... It's a tough call on hurricanes.
Please move this to the backroom so I can say the following. Jane, you ignorant slut... You know what I remember as a human being? A documentary that is narrated by Harry Connick, Jr. The micro and macro point of the documentary was the preservation of the wetlands and that the city of New Orleans was not truly prepared for the types of hurricanes that regularly hit the rest of the Gulf Coast. It was a recurring theme..everything tied back to the lack of federal government support and also placed heavy blame on the city of New Orleans as well as the state of Louisiana.... I wish I had written that day down. I was the pitching coach at Ontario HS. The President was a guy named Bill Clinton and the country argued about blowjobs and budgets....We were all doing a whole lot better, we were a lot happier and still had many more rights/freedoms than we do today.. Everyone was happy INCLUDING YOU... God damned those Republicans....
I don't know that playing a game on Saturday has given UF the necessary edge over the Aggies next week. The Gators don't look very special right now.
