Decision came quickly when Weis called

Hampton football star Steve Paskorz already had scholarship offers from close to a dozen Division I schools. He got another offer yesterday, and it took him all of a second to decide on his future.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis got Paskorz on a cell phone yesterday, offered him a scholarship and Paskorz immediately accepted. Paskorz, a junior running back-linebacker, made a verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish.

Paskorz was attending a Hampton football clinic when Weis called Hampton coach Greg Mihalik, who gave the phone to Paskorz.

"Notre Dame was the school I had No. 1 in my heart," Paskorz said. "Coach Weis was at our school last Friday, and I kind of got the feeling they were going to offer shortly.

"When I got on the phone, coach Weis said they had been debating whether to offer a scholarship or not. Then he said, 'I realized I'm the head coach and I want to offer you.' Right there, I said it would be an honor and a privilege to play for him."

Paskorz (6 feet 2, 220 pounds) also had scholarship offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Michigan, Mississippi, Virginia, Iowa and Connecticut. Paskorz started liking Notre Dame when he attended the school's "junior day" in February. Then, he went to the Fighting Irish's spring game.

"I really got comfortable with the coaches at junior day, and the spring game is when I really got the feel for the atmosphere there, and it's incredible," Paskorz said. "Then, it came to education, and Notre Dame's education is pretty much second to none."

Paskorz isn't certain what position he'll play at Notre Dame. He led the WPIAL in rushing as a sophomore and has 3,478 yards in two seasons.

"Right now they have me on the board as a linebacker," Paskorz said. "But coach Weis says he really likes me at running back. He said when I come up there they're going to try me at both positions

I've seen him described as anywhere from 6' to 6'2" from 208lbs to 220lbs. If he is going to be a linebacker I hope he's closer to 6'2" 220lbs.

The recruiting services do list him at 6'-0", 6'-1", and 6'-2". At a combine where they actually measured, he was 6-0.
