    I'm not as into ranking recruits and recruiting classes as everybody seems to be...often, I think, classes fail to live up to their hype...however;

    Yeah nothing brings out the haters like a great run of success like Ohio State has had, I used to hate FSU when they were on that long run of top 5 finishes and bowl victories. I just pity the fools (FSU) now!!! :)

    Stu,

    I think that Tressel is killing Michigan right now because nobody knows how it's all going to work out. In the past with UM having a Pro style system with a string of strong armed QB's, they always seemed to have a stable of great WR's. With the Rodriguez offense I'm sure WR's are looking at WVA and noted that they didn't throw the ball that much and figure that might be the case at UM now as well. Same thing for OL's, his offense does not produce NFL type OL's he offense needs smaller quicker OL's so you know the big uglies are probably also taking a wait and see approach and that will result in some of the OL's who used to go to UM going elsewhere for now. They should do well with RB's and Mobile QB's though. I don't remember anything about the WVA defense, but if it was not a 3-4 or 4-3 then it will also affect recruiting of the top defensive players who want to play in a defense that sets them up for the NFL.

    Seems to me that UM is now competitng with the spread type teams for offensive players. That puts them at odds with schools like Purdue. By the way Stu, how's Tiller's recruiting so far this year? :p

    As far as I can tell, Mike, the jury is still out...Danny Hope has signed a couple of promising kids but we haven't really gone after the 4 and 5 stars...probably not gonna either.

    It seems like there is a slow, lame duck transition down in W. Lafayette. Seems I read somewhere than M poached one of Tiller's recruits. Must be difficult for potential recruits to get a handle on the future leadership down there.

    Maybe so, Mike...but I believe the thinking was that the one-year transition worked out really well for Gene Keady and Matt Painter in terms of recruiting stability, so they are trying to do the same thing by bringing Danny Hope in this way.

    Didn't Wiscy do the same thing with Bielma and Alverez?

    Rodriquez poached a couple of players...not just from Purdue. The issue as I understand it (maybe wrongly) was not that he recruited them to switch, but that he told them not to tell Tiller (and Paterno in another case) that they were going to change, and it was a complete surprise on signing day with no chance for the other coaches to look elsewhere.

    I don't recall the details, but whatever happened was enough to cause Tiller to make a strong public comment. I like Tiller. I've always consider him a class guy. He certainly has brought Purdue back from the depths to be a respectable and competitive program on a consistent basis. I'd love to see Purdue get to the next level in the Big 10. I hope it happens.....no pun intended. :wink:

    I think the more people that get on RR's case the more determined he will become.

    I see RR as a Meyer type with regard to drive and toughness at least.

    I wouldn't count him out just yet.

    I don't think anyone is counting him out.

    West Virginia ran a 3-3-5 defense. I'm not sure how that translates to the NFL but I am sure that I don't recall very many WVA defensive players being drafted high with the exception of Pacman I guess. Perhaps, it will draw in a lot of DBs and not many DL and LB types????

    I would imagine you are right that WVA has not been producing NFL players very well under RR. Of course his job was to win, and not to produce NFL players. He did that pretty well, and put an exciting product on the field at the same time.

    If he continues that style of offense/defense he will be recruiting different types of players to UM than they previously have recruited. It might show up in the recruit rankings, of course there are probably 4* and 5* players who if he starts to win and win with excitement will not be deterred by any supposed impact on their draft status for the NFL.
