reading or listening to Florida State fans talking about integrity, and how much they hate to see 'money talking' instead of fulfilling a commitment to their school. Jimbo chucked that dude from his press conference yesterday. FSU fans thought this could never happen to them. At the same time, as an ND fan, I'd certainly put our fan base into that group of fans who think 'it couldn't happen to us', with the caveat that we really want it to happen to us sometimes!
Why is it that surprising? A&M has made a MASSIVE commitment to football, much more than FSU has. He'll get everything he's asked for and more if he moves. We found out in the 90's what happens if you stand still in the facilities war... FSU is about to find out.
No offense Scott but FSU has been consistently in the top ten in the last few years, won the NC in the last 5 yrs., had top 10 recruiting classes, and started this season ranked 2 or 3. A&M is a historic program but their recent resume is not on the level of FSU. Maybe Fischer wants to rebuild a program. 8)
kp... no offense taken, but I have to ask: What has the past got to do with the future? As this season for FSU shows... it has ZERO effect. If it did... FSU would be right where they were pre-1988 and Bowden... a football after thought.
It’s ok Scott, why didn't A&M go after Saban, Myer or Sweeney? The same reason you had Sumlin is the reason I am surprised.
Actually Fisher has had serious issues with what is evidently the largest FSU booster who is an attorney as well. With that being said pressure from boosters to fire members of his coaching staff has gotten to the point that he is indeed leaving for A&M it seems. Remember this is uncharted territory for FSU, for 40 years they have never had a coaching search going on much less any controversy that may affect their recruiting. Several key recruits have already backed away and the university recognizes this. All things said he has performed as well as anyone in college football coaching and will be missed...FSU fans just don’t realize how much yet...
The reason we had Sumlin was because several Houston Aggies thought he was the next Urban Meyer and hired him. So... I Guess I dont follow...
Yeah Houston and that move was clearly a step up for Sumlin, I guess my question is, is A&M a step up from FSU?
FSU is kind of an elite program for a long time now. Granted towards the end of Bowden's tenure things slipped but Jimbo has won a Nat'l Tite and recruited extremely well and at the beginning of every season his FSU teams are always in the top 10 and playoff candidates. So there really aren't any programs where it's a step up, certainly not A&M.
Your biases are showing Terry. Depends on what you define as "a step up"... As I mentioned, before 1988 FSU was NOTHING. Bowden came along and built them up to a top notch program. And if they'd stayed on top of everything (see Jimbo's facilities and staff gripes) we aren't even talking about this. However... FSU has rested on their laurels... and are now a bit behind in the facilities and staffing budget game. Jimbo has fought to bring them along, and the AD has largely ignored him. From that standpoint, Texas A&M far outdistances FSU. We learned that lesson the hard way in the 90's and won't fall behind again. Heck we just remodeled the lockerrooms that were only built 10 years ago! And that is why Jimbo is moving. He found a place that understands all the factors required to build and maintain a top notch program, and is moving on those requirements. If you want to focus on "hey they have more 10 win seasons than the other school" then your view of why he's moving is understandable. If you focus on which school is positioning itself for sustained success... well then the story changes. All the pieces are in place, we just need the right guy to drive the bus. Some big money Aggies are betting on Jimbo to be that guy.
Jimbo was not getting the facility improvements he wanted at FSU and apparently the President was going to make him get rid of some assistants. The Aggies money situation is second to none and they were willing to pay a bundle to get Jimbo.
