Yeah that's what 17 years of mediocrity will do for you. If we had hired a great coach to follow Holtz we'd be creeping up on UM, instead it was Texas who hired the great coach and is now rolling with 10+ wins a year. I think that back in the mid '90's Texas was behind the Huskers. We're still neck and neck with Michigan for the all time winning %, which we used to be #1, now #2 1 Michigan 0.73663 877 302 36 1215 2 Notre Dame 0.73396 837 290 42 1169 3 Texas 0.72032 845 318 33 1196 4 Ohio State 0.71653 819 308 53 1180 5 Oklahoma 0.71534 799 302 53 1154 6 Alabama 0.71203 813 316 43 1172 7 Southern Cal 0.70599 775 307 54 1136 8 Nebraska 0.70116 827 341 40 1208 9 Tennessee 0.69247 783 333 53 1169 10 Penn State 0.69103 811 351 42 1204 These numbers don't quite match with yours AJ. I got these numbers here. Win %
Here's how that list looked after the 2000 season. 1 Notre Dame 0.75260 776 241 42 1059 2 Michigan 0.74615 805 262 36 1103 3 Alabama 0.71828 737 276 43 1056 4 Nebraska 0.70788 753 299 40 1092 5 Ohio State 0.70563 725 287 53 1065 6 Oklahoma 0.70523 702 278 53 1033 7 Texas 0.70482 744 302 33 1079 8 Tennessee 0.69687 708 293 53 1054 9 Penn State 0.69533 739 312 42 1093 10 Southern Cal 0.69118 678 288 54 1020 Note that at that time Neb had 753 wins to Texas 744 and ND's 776.
It's kind of interesting to look at the changes over the years. Here's a page where you can define the range that you are looking at. College Records In 1963 at the end of JoeK's career we were 10 behind UM in all time wins In 1974 at the end of Ara's career we were 4 behind UM in all time wins. In 1980 at the end of Devines career we were 6 behind UM in all time wins In 1985 at the end of Fausts career we were 11 behind UM in all time wins In 1996 at the end of Holtz career we were 18 behind UM in all time wins. In 2009 at the end of Davie/TW/CW we were 40 behind UM in all time wins and no longer in 2nd place...dropping like a Rock. Of course it doesn't take a genius to recognize that Bo had a great run at UM winning like Mack Brown every year, and Lloyd had a lot of wins as well. If Mack stays at Texas and UM continues to struggle he'll make up a lot of ground on UM. But it will take a decade of UM futility combined with a decade of 10 win seasons to catch them.
I like this one. I-A Wins 1968-2009 (42 years) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Nebraska 0.79094 408 106 5 519 2 Ohio State 0.77291 384 110 8 502 3 Penn State 0.75644 381 122 2 505 4 Oklahoma 0.75148 377 122 8 507 5 Michigan 0.75547 376 119 8 503 6 Texas 0.73161 365 132 6 503
