when they are wronged, then you deserve to live out in the cold with no one there to stand up for you. This system, as I have been saying for years, is a cash grab that was set up to benefit the super conferences...More specifically, this system was setup by Roy Kramer (SEC Commissioner) to basically segregate college football and allow only a select few teams to sit at the preferred table. Since 1998, the first year of the BCS, the SEC has played for 5 of the 10 national titles at stake. Many of them still cry about the year Auburn was left out.. That would be 6 of 10. In the 10 years of the BCS, the Pac10 can lay a legitimate claim to being left out 6 times. Of course, we are told that is the way things have always been.. the SEC is just this uber power... Then why, in the previous 17 years to the BCS they contended for the national title 3 times? Going back just 3 years more (that gives you 2 Bama and 1 UGA title) to make it 20 years.. that is 6 times in the previous 20 years. Now we're to believe that they've doubled that rate in the past 10 years? Garbage. I know many of you are tired of reading this annual rant. I am tired of writing it. However, how many years in a row will we have to do this? Every year we start with these assumptions that horribly skew the polls and the voters. They never change. Time and time again I read stuff, mostly from 'traditional power' posters that "team X will have to show me something this year for me to believe in them in the future." And then the actions of team X are soon forgotten..a new season rolls around, and once again we are forced to stomach another pre-season article about the mighty SEC having 4 pre-season national title contenders. All I know is that the Pac10 went 5-0 this year on the field in the bowl games. The SEC regularly loses to Pac10 teams when they meet on the field. The biggest SEC win over the Pac10 is probably defending NC LSU's last second squeaker win over Oregon State at home.. That was a game in which Oregon State's Groza Award winning kicker shanked 4 FGs... It is one thing to have someone sh*t in your hat... But this BCS system sh*ts in your hat, pulls it down over your head and tells you that you are now all part of the latest trend... and some of you still continue to wear your sh*t hats. Enjoy your sh*t hats.. I'll be here rooting for anything but this garbage.
Corey, As you well know about me, I dislike all things Southern Cal. If not for the presence of SC in the Pac10, I would be a staunch defender of the conference. I agree with you re: the pro-SEC bias in the BCS, but in a year like this one, it's as hard to argue against the two participants in the final game as it is to say that TX and USC should not be there. Of course, I love the fact that a) USC thinks it is getting screwed, and b) Brent Musberger thinks USC is getting screwed. IMO, unless and until there is an all-inclusive tournament simlar to NCAA BB, there always will be some weeping and gnashing of teeth at the end of the season. A 4 or 8 team playoff will only reduce slightly the number of weepers and gnashers. My personal feelings aside, all I can say is, keep on keeing on. Unfortunately, your annual "rant" (referred to with the utmost respect) reminds me that it was around this time last year when JO'Co exited stage left. Sigh...
I have no problems with USC having an argument for being in the national title game and I respect the Pac-10 conference as a whole but Corey, even you, I think would have to admit that no one knew how good the Pac-10 was until bowl season started (I'm still not 100% convinced but I'm willing to consider the possibility that the conference is a lot better than I thought). I was very surprised that USC didn't get in the conversation at the end of the season. In fact, if you remember, I made a post predicting that USC would get lobbied for before all was said and done. The fact remains that USC loses games they shouldn't on a consistent basis (I know, I know, insert Florida losing to Ole Miss argument here). I think that it hurt the Trojans particularly bad this year b/c Oregon St. kept winning and holding the tie-breaker in the Pac-10 conference race by their head-to-head win until the season was nearly over. I believe that if Oregon St. would have lost a subsequent Pac-10 game, giving USC the lead in the Pac-10 race, that USC would have climbed the polls much faster and would have likely gotten in over Florida. However, since it was questionable whether USC would even win their own conference, in that round robin format Pac-10 guy loves to brag about, they became an after-thought in the national title race.
AJ- LOL You big red douchebag. I love it that you guys are back in the W column on Jan 1 Don-Watch out for the Longhorns Sid-All points well taken. This 'rants' are so much easier to make in the years that Oregon and Washington were hosed out of the NC game. Also, if you think JOCO was hopping last year, you should be in my inbox He is more subdued to be sure, but venomous nevertheless. I don't disagree with a thing he says either.. which if you remember, is an oddity. Aquila, You have to forgive me. Truly, when there isn't a beef to be had I am silent. I'm not surprised at all they were left out as this is the 3rd year running for them. The point must be made that, there is a large part of me, which truly enjoys this Trojan suffering. I do happen to agree with you about that perception regarding Oregon State, however, it also helps my point that this system sucks. Oregon State proved they were a good team and USC lost to them on the road.. Florida loses to Ole Miss at home yet gets the pass.. That violates the basic tenants of college football poll voting... but oh well, it's done now.
Hey Corey, it is not a matter of if but only when that you should write this epic! AJ, nice to see Nebraska back.
