The 51st State Of North Colorado? Can’t blame them. Good luck. Via Fox: GREELEY, COLO. – Officials in eight northern Colorado counties united in opposition to the state’s new gun control laws and oil and gas regulations are reportedly considering forming a 51st U.S. state called North Colorado. The Denver Post reports that a proposal to separate Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma and Kit Carson counties from the rest of the state was hatched at a meeting of county commissioners last week. Weld County commissioners Sean Conway, Mike Freeman and Doug Rademacher said they will conduct public meetings and decide whether to draft a ballot measure by Aug. 1., according to a report in The Greeley Tribune. The U.S. Constitution requires that Legislatures must first approve any state that is to be created within its jurisdiction. Commissioners said Thursday that failed legislative efforts to crack down on oil and gas, as well as increases in rural renewable energy standards were “the straws that broke the camel’s back.” Conway told the Tribune that Weld County’s main economic drivers, agriculture and energy, are under attack, even though those sectors contribute significantly to the state’s economy. He said the county’s return on its financial contributions to the state are minimal. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/06/09/colorado-county-proposes-51st-state-north-colorado/

Everyone wins a trophy All the right snark Dianny Rants Liberalism: Beating the Aspirations out of Americans for Fifty Years It was part of the American Spirit once upon a time — the idea that hard work, focus and aspiration, as well as a lot of perspiration will result in great things for the individual. In Obama’s America, hard work, focus, aspiring for something is just, well, hard. We can’t have competition anymore. Everyone wins a trophy — even the slackers who don’t give it their all. We can’t grade papers in red ink because it might stigmatize the children who aren’t doing well in class. Forget motivating kids to do better. We should reward the motivated kids equally with the lazy-ass ones who don’t want to bother. Women shouldn’t work hard and earn more money at their jobs; they should just get paid more because, well, it isn’t fair that some people who happen to have a Y chromosome get paid more. Why should people work hard, save up their money, and establish good credit to take part in the “dream” of homeownership?! That’s not fair. Everyone “dreams” of owning their own home; we shouldn’t make them work for it! Wanting more. Aspiring to be more. Working for what you have. These very American qualities are being beaten out of us day after day — in schools, in sports, in homeownership, in the workplace. We can’t expect folks to strive to do better because, well, it isn’t fair to the people who don’t want to strive to do better. Americans used to live by the adage: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” But in the Age of Obama, the adage has become: “Give a man an EBT card and you can feed him every day. Teach a man to fish, and he has to do all the work, and that’s not fair to the man, or the fish, (and the EPA doesn’t want you fishing anyway!!)” http://alltherightsnark.org/dianny-rants-liberalism-beating-the-aspirations-out-of-americans-for-fifty-years/
Texas City To Militant Atheist Group Demanding They Don’t Pray Before Meetings: Go Pound Sand… For every League City there are a hundred towns that bow to the Freedom From Religion Foundation and ACLU’s demands. Via New American: The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) appears to be losing its intimidating touch as it goes about its business of trying to stop people from praying and expressing their faith in public. The atheist group’s latest attack has come against the city council of League City, Texas, which has included prayer by local clergy in its regular government meetings since the early 1960s. In a July 15 letter to Mayor Tim Paulissen and the League City Council, the FFRF went through its customary paces in attempting to browbeat the city fathers into submission. Appealing to the First Amendment’s supposed “separation of state and church,” the godless group’s staff attorney, Elizabeth Cavell, called the city’s tradition of allowing both local residents and government officials to open the meetings in prayer of “dubious legality,” insisting that such prayers are “unnecessary, inappropriate, and divisive.” Cavell advised that while government officials “are free to pray privately or to worship on their own time in their own way,” they “do not need to worship on taxpayers’ time.” Cavell complained that inviting council members and locals to offer invocations at the government meetings “is coercive and beyond the authority of any government.” While citing a selection of court cases to buttress the FFRF’s case against public prayer, Cavell conceded that there is no clear precedent for her group to demand that the city end its tradition, since courts have issued conflicting opinions that make the legal landscape on the issue “unstable.” The only warning she could muster was that prayer at government meetings “continues to be litigated, divisive, and problematic for local governments across the nation precisely because of this instability.” She dubiously suggested that the “best course” for the city would be “to halt the prayers. If you wish to pray prior to the meeting, do so on your own time in your own way — do not make it part of the secular business of your local government.” As it happened, Mayor Paulissen and the city council appeared to be disinclined to follow the FFRF’s self-serving advice. Paulissen told the Houston Chronicle that he and the other city fathers had no plans to drop the 52-year tradition of opening council meetings with an invocation. http://thenewamerican.com/culture/faith-and-morals/item/16132-texas-city-stands-up-to-atheists-over-prayers-at-government-meetings
Allen West: “As Conservatives, We Don’t Care About The Color of Your Skin, We Care About The Color of Our Flag”… Bingo! Via Washington Times: Allen West headed to Amsterdam Tuesday to embark on National Review’s conservative summer cruise, saying he owes his success as a “young black man” to the nature of his character. “I was invited to be a guest speaker with a premier assembly of conservative thinkers,” the Republican wrote. “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud to know that a young black man born and raised in his same neighborhood rose based upon character. It is this equality of opportunity that is great about America … not President Obama’s phony rhetoric of inequality which is no more than equality of outcomes — social egalitarianism.” Mr. West has been particularly vocal about racial tension since George Zimmerman was acquitted more than two weeks ago in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. “I would hope William F. Buckley Jr. and Dr. King are smiling above as the embodiment of conservatism and the civil rights movement has come to fruition. The nature of conservatism is that it sees no color. The nature of liberal progressivism is that color is all it sees,” he concluded. On Sunday, Mr. West wrote, “as conservatives, we don’t care about the color of your skin, we care about the color of our flag.”
