You missed a fabulous exchange with Pat Dye and Gene Stallings. I will see if I can pull up the archive for it. It was good ole fashioned 'suth-ahn gentlemen' at its finest. Not this boo-ya, shout out, trash talkin all up in yo grill kinda interview. Sometimes, the best parts weren't just what they said, but what they didn't say. To summarize: -They both agree that Terry Bowden is a giant P.O.S. and stands no chance at getting the West Virginia job. He's a quitter, a whiner, a liar, a loser and not much of a man at a minimum, he sure isn't his daddy. -They both agree that the modern spread is just the triple veer option with a deeper, read option utilizing all options of eligible receiver and ball carriers as opposed to just 3. -Dye thinks the new spread option is a wonderful and complicated offense that can only be stopped by itself. Stallings believes that if everyone shuts up and blocks the man they are suppose to while you have a good ball carrier, all offenses can't be stopped. -Dye played apologists for modern defenses 'reading and reacting' to the new spread option attacks. Stallings believes that anyone who doesn't rush at least 4 isn't much of a Defensive mind and once again, if everyone takes their assignment and executes... the offense isn't as explosive. -Dye believes in schemes, Stallings believes in football players. Dye pointed toward the spread pass offense of the Colts and Patriots in the NFL, Stallings pointed out they have the 2 best QBs in the game. It was fun. One of the better radio bits I've heard in a while. If you enjoy brain pickin or just listening to people talk about their profession, who know what they are talking about, I'd check it out. As to the Bowden thing... man, they really did take it to that guy.. Sometimes with direct statements, more often than not, with what they wouldn't say when Finebaum tried to lead them in a certain direction.
ugh <r>I went to his site and found this note <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> You can listen the Hour #4 here but it isn't the interview<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.finebaum.com/media/archives/show/20071219_PFRN_Hour4.mp3"><s></s><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.fin...s/show/20071219_PFRN_Hour4.mp3</LINK_TEXT><e></e></URL><br/> <br/> In hour 4 you can hear people talking about what a great piece that was. I simply cannot believe that this is a true technical error. They called out ole Pumpkinhead pretty bad and it may have something to do with it.</r>
