Sports Center just spurred the question, and after seeing the play, why would Emanuel send the runners (1st and 2nd at the time) with no outs and the winning run at bat? I know the thinking, but at that point why not see what the hitters can do? Even a hard liner to the OF caught you could have easily caused 2 outs. Yeah I know, coulda woulda shoulda... Anyone?
Very good question, AJ. Clearly, he was trying to avoid the double play and keep the inning alive. He was 3 runs down with 3 outs to go, so I'm not surprised that he gambled. Unfortunately, by doing so he became a part of ML history.
